I made my annual trek to the movie theater last evening to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. As I always do when I see one of the POTC movies, I had immense fun! No, I did not see it in 3D. I just don't need that, and will leave it to the kids.

Johnny Depp ~ swoon ~ was, as always, fantastic in what has got to be his favorite and most campy role of all. I'm not at all a fan of Penelope Cruz, but found that she was.... tolerable. I did miss some of the favorite minor characters from the first three films -- the comics Pintel and Raghetti (with the wooden eye) were noticeably missing. In fact, the only prominent characters, besides Jack Sparrow, who were again present were Barbosa and Gibbs. Jack's father Captain Teague, played again by Keith Richards, is in one scene.

I loved the character of Blackbeard, played by Ian McShane, and got a hoot out of the portrayal of King George II. Not at all historically correct (the actor spoke with a British accent, rather than heavy German), but it was fun.

All in all.... a big thumbs up!

The novel that this flick was so very losely "based" on is my all-time favorite story, so I'm in no hurry to see this.
