Ok. I bet you all are wondering why I picked Duncan. Simply put, while he was a hypocrite and a liar, he did give the ultimate sacrifice for some one who he knew didn't love him. His life. After he had been spit upon by Cora, and had a scout do his job for him, he still gave up his life for them, and I respect him for that. Not to mention he has a cool name and looks like a pig! |

Too bad we can't vote twice, I'd also vote for Jack Winthrop...I think he was underused and if the movie were longer he could have had more screen time.

Hi, All,
This post somehow got 'lost', so I'll try again...sorry if it posts twice.
I would have liked to have been Alexandra Cameron, mainly because she was strong enough to have been indentured for seven years in order for her and John to get a place of their own, and, once on the frontier, to 'hack a living out of the wilderness with her own two hands,' to paraqhrase a bit.
It was clear to me that she loved her husband and family very much; but I got the feeling that if her circumstances had been different, she would have gone with Uncas.
I have a penchant for minor characters because I get to fill in the blanks in their backgrounds.
Hope this goes through !

I had to vote for Uncas simply because he is extremely good looking as well as a strong character considering that he hardly spoke a word! What can I say I love Eric Schweig!!!!! |

I went with Chingachgook, because he is simply one incredible man. Watch his actions throughout the movie. Especially during the fight scenes. One of my favorite scenes of his is at the arrest of Hawkeye, when he swats the rifle away that was getting a little too close. He did it so qick it was almost Martial Arts-ish. |

I had to totally pick Uncas. First of all...Eric Schweig is my favorite actor. Second...Uncas was kinda quiet and mysterious in a way, and strong. Uncas was a really rare character. You don't find many people like him anywhere. Plus, that's what i like in a guy and the fact that he's Indian. I love Indians!...hey wait a second...i am one!!!...sorta.

I guess I am the ONLY one that likes Montcalm. Frankly, it is Mr. Chereau that I like. I just acquired a copy of DANTON. He was quite 'Oooo lala'. (It is also a very good movie--VERY thought provoking. This is what happens to folks running the ANIMAL FARM.

I voted for Uncas because I think he is so hot. Eric Schweig is the hottest person in the movie. And I like Alice. But because I can only vote for one person I picked Uncas. I like how they have a unspoken love between them.

I was surprised not to see more Chingachgook/Magua votes. Sure they're not super hunks like Schweig and Day-Lewis but they were the two most bad-ass characters in the film. I'm curious to know the ratio of men to women that voted on this poll. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm guessing that the beefcake factor may have come into play here. |

My favorite character is Duncan. He was the only character, other than Cora, who was changed by his experience in the wilderness. He made the ultimate romantic gesture and sacrificed himself for the woman he loved. Sure, Duncan was arrogant and full of himself, but that's part of the strength of Steven Waddington's performance. Plus Waddington is an attractive guy AND he speaks French! |

I think Nathaniel the most interesting character. He is obviously heroic, self-sufficient. But its his practicality I liked best. This was best illustrated when he, Uncas and Chingachgook lept into the falls to avoid Maqua's crew. Much to Duncan's disagreement. But he was practical. He could do Cora no good dead, better to live and fight another day. Also shown well when he refused to bury his dead settler friends. Frontier practicality and reasoning. Duncan is a typical English fop. |

I chose Magua, with Nathaniel as a close second. Wes embodies everything noble and heroic in Native Americans. He has the classic warrior features. Also a fine actor and human being. |
