*sigh*

I feel like, "Here we go again."

Twice in recent weeks this issue has been privately brought up to me. People concerned that others are leaving because of politics on the board. My knee-jerk reaction to this is, "Well, leave then." Sounds harsh, I know, and I don't really mean it. More like, after thought, it is, "What can I do to prevent it?"

"Nothing," is my answer to myself. Nothing more than is already in place.

As most of you know, I am a political and social Conservative. Mostly. For the sake of a label, that would be mine. Most of the political posts on this board support that philosophical bent. Consequently, they don't bother me. I suppose if I were a Liberal, some might.

But, why?

What is wrong with debate/discussion. Like it or not - and sometimes, for me, it's "NOT" - that is allowed here. It remains so because it was the desire of some friends who, ironically, no longer post here. I don't go out to recruit conservative thinking posters. If you disagree, stay calm, and logically state your point of view as a response. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT? Just stay civil ... that is where I pretty much draw the line.

As I've stated before, my support button for McCain/Palin - posted once elsewhere on the site - caused some of my best Mohican friends to abandon the web site. I was told by one they they felt, "violated." I wonder if anyone has ever given thought to how I may feel when stuff like that happens.

There is no enforced agenda on these forums ... you may post your opinions, as long as you do so with respect to others. What's the fuss? Why can some not stand to hear a contrary opinion? What's up with that?

PLUS, there are certain forums set aside for just that purpose ... discussing news and politics. Not your cup of tea? Don't read those forums. Do you know that there is an option on the main board page for eliminating those [and others] from your view? Simply, use it!!

My opinions on the Lion's Den forum have been discussed before and you can read them if so inclined by searching them out.

I am not all-powerful. I am not going to enforce a certain political ideology from being or NOT being discussed. As long as it is in the proper forum and remains civil, it's fine. No one is forced to read or write anything. I really can't help it if mostly liberal thinkers leave and mostly conservative thinkers [do we? ] stay.

Before politics were even allowed here, people left ... and some in anger! "What's a Mother to do?"

This is my last post on this subject. It is tiring, but that is the lay of the land. Further complaints or concerns on this will be directed to this post. I do appreciate the feedback and interest, but it's a dead horse and will stay as it lays. It's open and fair for all. I cannot - or will not - attempt to control the thought process here.

ADDENDUM ---> Regardless of views, all are welcome here. First and foremost it remains, as its objective, a place to chat about a movie, novel, and frontier times. It doesn't matter if you're red or blue to do that. The rest is "enter at your own risk".

Peace, brothers and sisters!

That has always been my point, if you wish to present a statement as a 'fact', then use facts to back it up. If your statement is based on feelings or opinions, then do not present them as facts; but in either case use logic to frame your argument. In the adult world, that is how open discourse is conducted, and it is not too much to ask of any rational person.

As I noted before Sachem, our side would never object to a differing point-of-view. We may argue against its merits, its logic, but would never say that its existence should be snuffed-out. And if your 'friends' felt violated by your political opinion, then IMHO they are not friends worth having. I have friends of all political stripes; of those who are politically opposite of me, I may find their beliefs range from mildly amusing to outright childish, but I still like them for who they are, and would defend to the death their right to their own political beliefs.

Most folks on the other side will only care about your feelings, when your beliefs are in-line with theirs. As I noted before, that is one of the main differences between the Left and Right. The Right respects the Constitution and the believes in the right to open discourse, whereas the Left has demonstrated their contempt for such things, over and over again.

Once again Sachem, you are stating what a rational adult would do if something offends them, to wit: they simply do not expose themselves to it any longer than necessary. Remember what the Good Book says, "If thine eye offends thee, then pluck it out!" (Matthew 18:9)

I totally agree Rich, as I've said several times, NO ONE is preventing anyone from posting their point of view, or anything regarding a movie, a person or almost anything - absolutely no one!!! Within reasonable limits anything goes. These folks are really just saying if someone posts something they don't like or agree with - they're taking their ball & bat and going home. It's kind of a back door attempt by control freaks to impose their view on others. "If I don't like it, - I don't want it posted". The real world doesn't work that way, - fortunately.
