I realize that the French and Indian War was part of a global struggle between England and France. My question arises from a statement I read on the Web, about fighting occurring in "1761 during the French & Indian War in what is now Chester County South Carolina." Does that time and place fall within the French and Indian War? Thanks!

That time and place falls within the Cherokee War (1760-1), which is generally regarded as part of the French and Indian War. Although some historians regard both the Cherokee War and Pontiac's Rebellion (1763-5) as being somewhat seperate conflicts from the French and Indian War, some also bunch all three together. Fighting during the French and Indian War ended in 1761. And the French and Indian War is often regarded as a smaller theater of the Seven Years War which did extend globally from the Europe to the Mediterranean, North America, Cuba and the east caribbean, west Africa, India and Manila. The Treaty of Paris which officially ended the French and Indian or Seven Years War was signed in 1763.
