228 years ago today the "Old Waggoner" Daniel Morgan gave Banastre Tarelton a devil of a whipping at Cowpens.

I wish there was an accurate roster of Major McDowell's North Carolina riflemen for this battle. Most of my kin within the past generation or two come from Cherokee, Macon, and Swain Counties in western North Carolina. But I know that some of their kin came from Rutherford County around 1800. If they were there in 1800 they might have been there during the Revolution and one of Major McDowell's rifle companies was drawn from Rutherford County men.

I just like to think it might have been possible that I had an ancestor who was a frontier rifleman sharpshooting on Daniel Morgan's skirmish line. I reckon I'll never know for sure.

Cowpens was perhaps the tactical masterpiece of the American Revolution.

I spent some of Friday, all of Saturday, and most of today at Cowpens. This is their annual anniversary event. Temps were a little chilly and a nice breeze was blowing yesterday. It was probably in the teens. We decided to walk the battlefield at about 10PM last night, and got back to camp about 11:30. It was a good weekend.
