I was talking with some folks last weekend at Camden, and they had been to the event at Ligonier. Did anyone from this board go? They said somebody was portraying Grant, and just wondered who that might have been. Possibly someone I met at Oswego a couple of years ago. I wish I could have been there, but there is just too much going on.

WW, Sarge and I were there, Fitz....good event! Major Grant was not portrayed there.....it was at Plum Borough's Boyce park, by Gary Smith, from Sjt. Munro's Co'y. Col. Archibald Montgomery, 77th Highlanders, is portrayed at Ligonier by Dan Buchko, a veteran reenactor and CO of the Ligonier event for years. I portray Col. Armstrong, of the 2nd Battalion Pennsylvania Reg't of Foot.

I don't know of any photos online, but I am sure someone will surface with a 'photo bucket'-type link. It was a lot of fun, and the weather cooperated with us as well.

PS: Major Grant would not have been there historically on 12 October anyways, since he was a 'guest' of His Most Christian Majesty's represenatives in Canada, after September 14th of 1758. |

Fitz,
I posted a photo of the re-enactor who portrayed Grant at the Forbes Rd 250th event at Boyce Park in Plum Borough. It is here: Grant Portrayal See the photo of Grant surrendering his sword.
I took some photos at the Fort Ligonier 250th event, but the battle is very difficult to photograph. The area is so small and the viewing area is even smaller. My photos are always taken from behind the British/Provincial lines. I will post some of what I have. |

| Yes, he was, Duncan, yes....he was. I still think he endorsed Col. Burd to be Commandant of Loyal Hannon so he could be free to be the "hero" who took Du Quesne, but it backfired on him! |

You are right Fitz, it was Provincials, but then again a great many of the uninitiated often confuse the two, and wrongfully so! The Provincials were drilled, equipped and paid, the same as regulars (except in some cases, the Provincials were usually better paid), but with a 'short-term' enlistment. These were men who were willing to take the fight to the enemy (as many did, outside of their own colonies); as opposed to Militia, who usually balked at the idea of leaving their own hamlet, let alone crossing a colonial boundary.

You are correct 100% correct Seamus, and I do believe there is a reference to the recomendation of Col. Burd to command found in Vol.2 of the Bouquet Papers.
