I received an email from my sister in AZ (yeah, the one you met, caitlin). It seems that she has just been diagnosed with colon cancer...all prayers will be greatly appreciated. She'll be calling us in a few days & talk mostly to my wife, who (as I've probably mentioned before) had/fought/beat colon cancer 5 years ago.
Thanks...

So sorry to hear this, Obi. Please know that you and she will be included in my prayers.
It seems that the list grows longer each day. God bless her, and here's to her having the same success your wife did! Tell her to stay positive. That helps more than anything, I can assure you. Please keep us 'in the loop'.....we care. |

| Adding my prayers too Obi! It seems we hear of more cases of cancer these days, but we also hear of more successes beating it too. Prayers and good luck to you and your family Obi! |

I thank you all so much, my friends. And Seamus, I did tell her that the three most important things to have in beating this crap are:
1) Attitude 2) Attitude 3) Attitude
...and that with her faith, she has that part covered...
BTW, my wife has come to the conclusion that the reason she had cancer is that now she's able to help so many people. As they say down South, "bless her heart!" |

Obi, as a scarred combat veteran of the Big "C" wars, I can attest to your top 3. I, too, have come to the same conclusion, in my case, as your wife did. Funny how that works...........I almost daily have the opportunity to help others who are fighting the fight. And it gives real meaning to my life.
She must: A. Fight through B. Stay strong C. Be a Warrior and overcome D. All of the above
I did not create these; they are the brain-child of my hero, Sgt. Merlin German, USMC, who lost his fight after his 100th surgery over three years to repair burn damage caused by an IED in Iraq. Through it all, he never lost his will....his body just_gave_out.
I posted his website earlier this year on Mohicanland, but, if you want to go there again, it is:
www.merlinsmiracles.com
Maybe his story will help your sister.....it has me. He IS my hero...wish I could have known him. |

I agree wholeheartedly; I have very few heroes in my cynical "old age." Sgt. German certainly nears the top of this short list.
My wife reminded us earlier today of "The Three F's":

| Ditto to what everyone else has said Obi. If your sis is anything like her brother then she will pull through. Good to know that she has your Mrs to talk to since she has gone through it already and beat the cancer. Best wishes my friend. |

I'm baaaaack (in case anyone missed me)! We've been visiting our son who is on TDY in San Diego till the end of October. What a neat place!
I received a phone call from my brother-in-law yesterday evening...my sister had her surgery Friday--it was originally scheduled for Saturday! The surgeon was able to remove about 75% of her cancer = all of her colon! She'll have to wear a bag the rest of her life. I told my b-i-l that her problem would be finding a hat to match her bag! That got a laugh from him, which was my intent. They believe that chemo will handle the other 25%, which is in her liver. We already knew about the liver; this just confirmed that it's Stage 4 (the worst stage, for those of you who don't know), but still beatable. She's mentally/emotionally/spiritually ready for this battle; I'm not so sure about physically, though.
Please keep her & her family in your prayers... |

Just found this thread... still getting caught up.
I'm so sorry, Obi, that your Sis has to go through this. There's not much else I can add, except that I am certainly pulling for her. |
