For those of you who might not believe there really is a Sachem: The Sachem can be elusive and mysterious, and is best tracked in his native habitat. It helps to engage the assistance of a Soldier, preferably #2 if he is available to help with the hunt, as his Sachem-tracking skills have been honed over the years.
Next, you must locate the native habitat, which in this case is Sachem's daytime habitat, his workplace. It is best to show up at closing time. To be sure that you have located the proper subject, look for certain characteristics such as a ponytail and million-dollar smile. Plaid flannel shirt optional.
Bait can include Gathering souvenirs such as Program Guides, car flags, and Gathering t-shirts, and the Sachem seems to fall for these every time. Once the bait is tossed, Sachem can easily be lured into dinner and conversation, especially if he is cornered and not given much of a choice. Once the Sachem is captured, there is certain to be great conversation and friendship. The trackers soon realize it is the same, good ole Sachem, and old times are relived. Sachem knows he is missed and that many have sought after him, his knowledge, and his friendship. The trackers know they have indeed caught a rare and precious prize. Alas, this tracker did not make a picture, so the Sachem escaped with only my word as proof, much as the believers of Bigfoot or Loch Ness must try to convince others of a great creature's existence on scant evidence. But if you are ever in Sachem territory, try to track him.... if you dare.
Thanks, Rich and Eric, for a great evening and great conversation!

That does sound like a mission of daring and secrecy and how jealous I am! Next time I'm in the territory, I'll have to take the challenge myself!
Glad you guys were able to spend some time catching up! |

Don't be fooled; I allowed the Lobster-back and his blue Smurf friend to "sneak" up on me. I am Master of my Domain [mohicanpress.com ]!

And, throw in a free dinner at Fatz Cafe, and I am all yours!

You are too kind, Steph! Thank you. Let me just say that I had a wonderful 3-4 hours with you both at dinner last night.

As I said, WHAT Sachem?!?

Catch me, if you can!!!!!!!!!

Likewise!
Some other comments:
-- The Program Guide was stunning! Great job on that!
-- Jayne, thank you so much for the personalized car flag!!
-- I truly do miss - and regret - not getting to meet Soldier #1, Dennis Banks, and most especially, Ariel and her family. Every Gathering has had its unique qualities. Clearly, this one did, too!!!
-- And, I miss all my ole buds from previous Gatherings ... Diana, Sarah, Fitz, John, Donna, Karen W., Kay, Sharon, Phil & Karen, Nancy, Patrick, along with the aforementioned Steph, Eric, and Jayne. Not to mention all the folks who I've not ever met ... All of you, it's more my loss than yours ...
2010, anybody? |

I am skeptical about sightings of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and aliens at Roswell. Usually I need proof more convincing than some man's opinion before I blindly believe such sightings. But Stephanie's word's been good on the frontier a long time ...and if Soldier #2 is of the same opinion, then taken together, that's gospel.
So, I believe in the existence of the Sachem, even without a photo. Besides, photos can be faked and we can't believe all that we see (or hear) anymore....hmmmmm without someone's good word, what can we believe?? (that discussion belongs in the Light in the Forest forum!) |

Steph, I do believe you when you say that Sachem does still exist. I think that other than bribing him with food and goodies, you just have to be quiet and sneak up on Sachem when he isn't looking, or you can go to the Marion post office. Hey, that's an idea, at the next Gathering, if Sachem won't come to us, we will go to Sachem!!! We can all go and sit in a nice air conditioned post office and the Sachem can't even run away from us!!!
Love, Kay
PS Steph, I love your new avatar.

Oooo - a new subject of Monsterquest on the History Channel! (Not that the Sachem is a monster by ANY means. Nope...doesn't resemble one in the least little bit - other than his ability to flit from place to place in Mohicanland unseen. At least until NOW! Stephanie and Eric, you are truly SLY and SNEAKY! |

Uh oh! Poor Soldier #2! I love the picture, though, BOTH sides of it. Ok, we look a little silly or drunk but all we had was iced tea! |

That's what it is ... key ring. On it, are two Mohican Gathering souvenirs from years past - 1998 and 2001. That's what I was actually trying to get in the picture. |
