Don't it make ya feel old??? Sure does me.

And to make it worse, 30 years ago today, I arrived in New York State to begin my life as a farmer in upstate New York. Seems like only yesterday...

Well,- this is probably the 'best time of year" to start farming in this neck of the woods, if that helps any. ;)

So you "hacked it out of the wilderness with your own two hands" so to speak.

How old were you when you graduated, Obi? I though you were the same age as me.

I graduated in 1964, and was just 4 months past my 17th birthday. The reason I was so young? It was not because I was so smart that I skipped a grade. I started school in California (and maybe this is the reason you graduated in '63?), and at that time, they had no ruling that said a child had to be a certain age by a certain time. So, my parents started me in kindergarten when I was 4 and I didn't turn 5 until February. When we moved to Oregon, I was as much as a full year younger than the other kids in my class. Traumatized me for life!

I skipped the 5th grade...the jury is still out on whether that was a good choice or not. Oh well, it makes up for having spent 2 years in kindergarten! I started K when I was 4 also.

BTW, when I graduated from HS in '63, it was just 4 months after my 17th birthday! Looks like I'm about a year older FWIW...

Must be. I'm Feb. 5, 1947. You must have been born in 1946?

Oh, great. That last piece of information, I didn't need to know.

Yes, I remembered that our birthdays are right next to each other. I just didn't know which year it was for you.

Good ol' California. I wonder if they ever did put that ruling into effect? I was going into the second grade when we moved to Oregon, and the school came very close to putting me back into the 1st grade, due to my young age. But, my parents pleaded my case and they kept me in 2nd grade. I did just fine. Got good, but not perfect grades.
