Took another hike today, and ran into a large group of high school kids on an "eco field trip" - only thing it could be called. In any case, they were listening to this female teacher talking about birds, - a long chat. When she took a breath, one of them asked her what a raptor was. She spread her arms wide and said "they have big wings, a large beak, and eat" .... bingo, she instantly looked like she was choking on something. "They eat, - they eat, (cough) well, they're not vegetarians" ... It was simply beyond her to say they ate other birds and small animals. These are truly strange folk, ...

Isn't that like the old saw, "Vegan: Native American word meaning 'Lousy Hunter'"?

Actually Obe my point was she was INTENT on avoiding saying that raptors were birds that killed and ate other animals, - kind of enough pc there to make one puke. They're hunters, plain & simple, nothing wrong with that, part on nature, - don't try and make something else.

That's all kinds of ridiculous. Now I'm imagining a world in the distant future where all elementary-school textbooks print "not vegetarian" instead of "carnivore" or "preys on small birds, fish, and mammals." *Sigh.*
