I suppose they gather this info via spyware. Can't think of any other way. None of the stats fit me, though. But if they had said "serves in the French army (troupes de la colonie)" that would have been one.

Seems like a pretty accurate assessment to me. Very interesting though. |

I believe the stats presented reflect visitors to the entire site, not just the boards. So, we can't really apply those stats to our online community, necessarily. Also, their notation states that they have "sparse information" about this website, so their figures are "rough estimates."
As for the Ethnicity figures, I don't understand their graph, but if you look on the Demographics page, you can see that they also broke it down by percentages. There, they show Caucasians at 84%. Rich, is that the part you disagree with?
The education, genealogy and the income figures kind of make sense to me. This is a site about history, in addition to being about a movie. People who are researching are going to get search hits for a number of history-related things here on this site. The higher income brackets go along with the higher education brackets.

Sparse information and rough estimates mean you are more likely wrong than right.

Wow, that's very interesting indeed.
Though I don't really fall into most of those categories.
Probably because of my age. Go figure. |

Well, yeah, but I don't see what you are referring to. I see a graph that shows "Others" [that is, other than Asians, Hispanics, and Blacks] visiting more often than Caucasians by a nearly 2:1 margin. Not possible, I would think.
At any rate, I "Quantizised" [as they call it] the web site. We'll see if those figures change or not. |

Interestingly, I do not see the tabbed page I went to earlier that was titled "Demographics." There were three tabs that ran crosswise near the top of the page, underneath the image of your home page, that were clickable links to separate pages that had more detail. They appear to be gone. Curious. Perhaps they went away because "Quantification is in progress."
Anyway, on it I saw a pie graph of percentages that looked as though it gave a more accurate picture than the bar chart does. Caucasians were at 84%, with the other groups filling in the other 16%. Much more believable, I would think. |

My question to Uncle Sam is, does it really matter, age, race, gender, and such? And why must the gov pretend to know it all?

I don't think that this has anything to do with the Government, LOTM. It's just some "harmless" demographic study ... maybe? |
