UPDATE:
Now, the last film I've seen in a theater is: Michael Mann's "Public Enemies". I had planned to go see "Nine," but it didn't materialize. |

The last time I went to the theatre it was for AMAZING GRACE. I'm just not that interested otherwise.

Made it to see the Young Victoria this winter despite having to drive to the theater in quite a snow storm. It was worth the snow!

I really wanted to see that, but it never came to my area. So, I have it in my Netflix cue.
It's pretty much gotta be a period piece for me to spend nearly $10 to see it on the big screen. Or... something like "Mama Mia" which I actually went to see twice! I saw it alone the first time and liked it so much, I just had to go again with my daughter and her friend.
Now I just need to find the time to go and see Robin Hood! Looks good. |

I saw Robin Hood today. I thought it was good but not great. I guess I should point out that I think Crowe's performance was fine but Robin Hood isn't in the same class as Crowe flims like Gladiator, Master and Commander, and Cinderella Man. I bought those on DVD but I won't buy Robin Hood. That should give you an idea of how the story compares with some of Crowe's other films. |

I went to see Robin Hood over the weekend, and I loved it! I found it to be a very refreshing take on how the Robin Hood legend began. Don't worry... no spoilers will be given!
As for the acting, I thought Russell did his usual great acting job. Yes... a little less meaty role than Gladiator, but very well done. It's a joy to watch him ride a horse. He has a good seat. It is also a joy to watch him remove his chain mail armor and shirt. He has a good.... cough. Well, you get the idea. Cate Blanchett, as a more earthy Lady Marian who was comfortable working on her farm, was excellent, as always. Yes... a little less meaty role than Elizabeth, but very well done.
Sets, scenery, cgi shots were all very well done, and not overdone. My only minor complaint was the photography method used for some of the fighting shots at the end of the movie. It has a sort of strobe effect that I didn't care for too much. Other than that, gorgeous photography.
One thing that I really did appreciate was the lack of graphic blood and guts. Yes, there was violence, as there always is with war. However, the director didn't feel the need to spread fake blood and gory severed limbs all over the place. It was almost like back in the 50s when I was a kid -- you knew people were getting killed but you were spared the yucky gore.
All in all... 2 thumbs up! |

Watched Jonah Hex last week. It's OK, I guess. Think Josie Wales meets The Crow meets The Wild Wild West.
Earlier in the week we watched The A-Team. Not bad, really; certainly better than that lame TV series! My wife will go seen anything with Liam Neeson in it (of course Jessica Biel ain't too bad either).
Of course, my favorite flick of the summer is Robin Hood. Mark Strong makes such a great villain! I don't think I'll watch it any time again soon, since I've now seen it 3 times. |

I actually saw The Wizard of Oz at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg- they have classic movies every Wednesday during the summer. I've gotten to see Some Like It Hot and Top Hat in the past. I'd love to see Toy Story 3- I saw the first one in the theater when it came out. Even though it isn't in a theater I'm in a Gettysburg mode since anniversary time is here again.

Obi, you don't like the A-Team? I like to watch that show every once in a while- my favorite episode is the one starring Boy George. (Go ahead, I know I'm setting myself up for that one!)
Mark Strong has been in a lot of movies I've seen lately- the latest being the new Sherlock Holmes. I didn't think I'd like it but it turns out I really did! |

Went to the "cinema" 2 days running, a couple of weeks ago.
Went by myself to see the latest Resident Evil. What's a plot? No more that a C-.
Went with wife the next day to see Machete, Robert Rodriguez's rather heavy-handed response to the conservative anti-immigrant stand. At least this had a plot, I think. Definitely not RR's best, or 2nd or 3rd best, either. Maybe a C+. |

Saw the new "Potter" flick over the weekend and it was good. Darker and sadder than the others. Starts off with excitement and lags a bit but picks up again. Only complaint is not enough of my favorite "Professor" but that is the case with all the movies. Off to see "Tangled" with the youngest this coming weekend and looking forward to the next Twilight movie. |
