I take it you mean the movie and not the book?
Well, all I can say is . You're always beating the rest of us at trivia, and haven't even owned the movie . . . till now. Guess you'll be extra tricky now.

I hope it was VHS (1993 release) and not the DVD. VHS is much better IMO. |

Wish I could have gotten the VHS, but it is like 20+$ more than what the DVD cost me (internet onsale for 4.99. Where as it normally sells for 17.99. I love this giant overfill sales.
I also love the VHS for a scene or two they deleted from the DVD. aka
Got Nothin to do better on the lake today major?
I love that line, and yet they deleted it.

Actually, there's a rumor floating around the IMDB boards that the version of LOTM shown on TV contains some material not shown in either the VHS or the DVD. I don't have cable, so I can't test it out! |

Congrats Little Lady Of Fire I think the version of the movie they show on TV is the 1993 release. I've seen LOTM on TV lots of times and I've taped it. Theres stuff not shown in the DVD and some scenes are different. I've never seen the VHS tape so I'm not positive if there the same. I've been trying to get a copy of the tape but here in Toronto LOTM is a real popular movie and the older version is really hard to get. Later days, Lapus |

So, here's what I don't get. . .Russell Means said the movie ran 108 minutes. The VHS version says 113 minutes, I think, and the DVD says 117 minutes. I know the DVD is the director's cut, but is the VHS version the same one that was released in 1992 in theaters? Or maybe one of those is shown on TV and the other is the VHS version, which would account for why they don't match.
Maybe they'll get smart and release the original on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD and make millions. Does anyone have either a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player yet? If so, is it worth the money? And. . .any guesses as to which of those two technologies is going to win out in the long run? |

What the heck is Blu-Ray anyway? Netflix offers Blu-Ray discs but doesn't explain what they are. (And, no, I'm not very technologically advanced. ) |

This is the extent of my knowledge. . .Blu-Ray is a type of high-density dvd--it makes for clearer pictures, brighter colors, etc. In fact, I think its worthless unless you have an HD television--which is all that you can find in most stores/websites for televisions now. Sony is the big company behind Blu-Ray and I don't know why they chose to call it that.
But, there's a competitor dvd out there, as well called HD DVD. Remember the Beta vs VHS about 20 years ago? Well, we're poised for a new competition. I don't want to spend the money on either until I know which one is going to ultimately win the market. However, I would consider it if LOTM came out in one format or another. But, first I have to get an HD television, which I don't have yet!! |

I got hooked on Sony's Atrack3P compression software for the CD. It compresses the CDA format so that you can get as many as 1000 songs on one CD. I love it! I used it in my Walkman. But when I looked for a replacement radio for my car that would play that format, there was none. I was able to buy a radio from Sony which would play it, but I had to order it since no one carries one locally. So if Sony is behind Blu-Ray, then unless I was prepared to buy all Sony products, I would wait and see. But the Sony radio I ordered is great, and the quality of the CD burned with Atrack3P is great, so no problems from that quarter.
Imagine that! 1000 18th Century French songs on one CD! |

All but one of the major movie production companies (like 20th century fox, etc.) have signed up to release their movies on Blu-Ray. I think I read that the last company is trying to decide. So, I'm betting Blu-Ray is going to win out. I am only watching this competition casually, though. So, I may have only bits and pieces of the correct info.
Anyway, I think regular dvd's are going to go the way of VCR tapes. Between the HD TV and a new dvd player I see $1000 flying out the door sometime in the next couple of years just to try to keep up with technology.
So, tell me more about this compression c.d. stuff. Do you have to play it on your computer to copy it or how do you do that? |

Sorry that I dozed off, but I was trying to imagine listening to 1000 18th Century French songs.
Just kidding Fitz I can't imagine having 1000 songs on one cd. Might have to check into that for all of my 50's hits. I can just see Fitz going to sleep just thinking about having to listen to 1000 golden oldies.

MG, I usually have a Beach Boys cd playing while I am on the computer. Their music just puts me in such a good mood. I actually like almost any music from the 50's, 60's, or 70's. After that, it is pretty slim pickings!!!

Actually my goal is to have every song Jimmy Buffett ever recorded on one CD. Problem is, a lot of what I have is on cassette. There is software to record the cassette to disc then convert it to MP3, but first you need a good player for the cassette (hard to find), and a good sound card for the PC that uses RCA jacks for input, and since I use a laptop that is a problem. I could get an external sound card, but that costs a lot and for the limited time I would be using it, it doesn't make much sense. So maybe I can find someone who will lend me the CD's, but then a lot of his old stuff may not be on CD. So the search goes on. |

Fitz, I don't listen to very many Jimmy Buffet songs, but I love Margaritaville!!! Can't you download songs off of the internet onto your cd? I have never done it, but it seems like there are legal sites that you can go to. At least, I know alot of people that do it. Hey, if nothing else, just go to eBay or Amazon and buy a few Jimmy Buffet cd's that you don't have.

With my dial-up connection, it would take weeks to do that. Maybe some day when I visit my daughter who has a cable connection and WIFI. |
