Let's all post poetry we've written involving LOTM! Here's my first attempt:

'World On Fire' (Cora's Poem)

The world is on fire,
And still I think of you,
The one who brought me through
The wilderness.
Surrounded by noise and enemies
And the naked confusion
Of life,
I touch your face and find
The calmness my own
Soul lacks,
The strength my own
Heart shares.
As the water that flows
Over the rocks,
The stream that courses
Through the land,
So is my love for you.
Though the earth burns
With the greediness of mankind,
Still I think of you.
The snake slithers in the shadows
With silent intent,
And still I think of you.
The world is on fire,
And still I think of you.

Keneta,
That's beautiful! Your seniments perfectly match Cora's heart. I know there are some very creative people on this board so I hope more people post their own poetry. Any attempts I make would sound like a 4th grader since I always seem to rhyme. Again, a beautiful poem.

'Uncas'
'O, proud warrior,
Man of silent dignity,
Do you touch the stars
With your soul or
Encompass them
With your heart?
When the world
Seems to fold beneath
Your feet and those
Who don't understand
The color of your spirit
Turn their backs to you,
Your eyes are not silent,
Your strength
Does not flee.
You are the mountain,
The rock of your people,
And when you die
For another,
Offering your soul
To the Great Spirit
With no thought
Of the pain,
We will honor you
With dignity born
Upon the wind.

I had never read this until today. It is beautiful and truly captures the spirit of Uncas.

What you give of yourself is priceless.
