I had to go with "The Great Outdoors" here. John Candy is one of my all time favorites, it's too bad we lost him so young. I really also loved his role as the security guard at Wally-World in "National Lampoons' Vacation". He really did justice to the underdog, uncomfortable-in-his-own-skin type of character. |

I had to go with "Stripes" here simply because I love everything about that movie and Candy's big, loveable bumbling soldier was one of the highlights. "You're a lean, mean, fighting machine!!!" "The Great Outdoors" was a close second. |
See this face? This is the face of a woman on the edge. Whoopi Goldberg, "Jumping Jack Flash"

Every funny JC movie had a co-star who stole the show. I chose "Armed & Dangerous," because Eugene Levy is so drop-dead hilarious!
"The Great Outdoors" would be my 2nd pick. Surprisingly, we spend several weeks each year camping less than a mile from where that was filmed (Bass Lake, CA). The old Ducey's Lodge (think "Land of 1000 Dances") burned downed several years ago & has been replace by a giant faux-outdoors way-too-expensive-to-eat/stay-there restaurant/lodge. This was NOT an improvement, folks. |

I went with "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" I just love that movie, so funny and Steve Martin is great in it as well. They play well off each other. I love the scene where Candy is driving down the Interstate and smoking and his jacket gets stuck. He throws the cigarette out the window only for it to land in the back seat and well the rest is history. He does a "wrong way Richie" and the car ends up in flames. Just hilarious and I always laugh every time I see that movie.
The Great Outdoors would be next up for me and I loved Summer Rental. |
