Dear Rich,

I know you are probably temporarily off line at this time, and may not get this for a couple of weeks or so. But I am going to go ahead and say that I sincerely hope that you can set aside the problems and heartaches that have been a part of your daily life and just focus on you! Please know that your friends here love you, care about you, and worry over you!

And with that said...

Happy, Happy Birthday, Sachem!

Thank you Sachem, and I am glad to see you up and about. As for the picture, it has an interesting story behind it. It was 'officially' listed as a rendition of the 2nd Battalion of the 42nd Royal Highlanders, before they departed for North America in 1759. I was a wee bit confused, since the regimental colors were done in yellow, and by the time the 42nd was authorized a second battalion they were a 'Royal Regiment' with a dark-blue regimental standard. So I did a little snooping (No suprise there, huh?), and found out from a friend of mine, who is still with the regiment, that the painting was finished in 1759, but that its origins were from a series of sketches done of the single battalion regiment in Ireland (Circa 1756), prior to their departure for North America. When I asked of the flag, to wit: why was it yellow instead of buff (the regimental color of the 42nd, prior to 1759); he told me of one therory, that artist might have exercised a little bit of 'license' and changed the color so that it would not disappear into the background. Either way, it is a truly fascinating work, with a good amount of depth and detail.

Kate and Sarge...

I've split this topic and have moved your two recent posts about the Black Watch into the "In The News" forum. The thread is titled "The Black Watch."

Please... go there and continue your most interesting discussion!

As for me, I am going there right now to ogle more kilted soldiers!

Well... if you insist, WW...

Moving it was fine with me. I realised that my response might take the thread down another avenue, and I didn't really want to spoil Rich's thread by going there. So - moving it was good.

Thanks ~
