Hugh Jackman is MEGA DROOLWORTHY. And there's a scene where he rides a horse through Grand Central Park to get her purse from a mugger...I don't know why, but I just found the whole movie charming.
Christina, I liked Kate and Leopold too. Even though the whole concept of time travel isn't really my thing, I did like the movie. And yes, Hugh Jackman is VERY droolworthy!!!

I think the best happy-ending love story is "Sense and Sensibility", not just because there are 4 very VERY happy characters, but I love the way Alan Rickman played his role, as compared to the other role of his that is also a favorite: The Sheriff of Nottingham.
For the best sad-ending love story, I would pick "Cold Mountain". The love was pure, acknowledged and resulted in a sublime strength and sweetness: the daughter and her mother who learned what love really is. Gosh! I sound corny! But I am sticking to my guns with these two. I cry at the end of either of these EVERY time I see them.
And I am also remembering that LOTM is number one!

For the best sad ending love story, I'd have to go with "Sommersby." The ending just blew me away.

Chris, I have to agree with you that Sommersby has the saddest ending of any movie that I have seen. Even though I know what is going to happen, I cry every time that I watch it.

Don't know if anyone is still reading this thread, or not...but I had to add two of my favorite romance films (also included them in my "alltime favorites" films on another poll). Anyone ever see "Like Water For Chocolate"? I loved that! Another film I would have to add for my choice would be "The Quiet Man". WW - I'd forgotten about "Murphy's Romance": but I really like that one too. Always have loved James Garner! It just occured to me that, although the whole series doesn't exactly fit the category, the love story of Aragorn and Arwen in LOTR is another one of my alltime favorites. Who *wouldn't* give up immortality for that guy?! |

Ok I have to put my 2 cents in once again! I own both the dvd and vhs box set of Pride and Prejudice. Awesome movie. And yes ladies...Colin Firth is to die for....but nothing comapred to Eric Schweig! Sense and Sensibility was also an amazing movie. Col. Brandon may be old but he is like a fine wine...only gets better with age! The same goes for Sean Connery! As for the English Patient...wow! It makes me bawl my eyes out when the hero is carrying the woman up to the cave after the plane crash. Seeing him cry when she gives him the thimble ( I think that is how it went..been so long since I saw it) makes my heart break. Then him being held prisoner while she is out there alone dying oh man. And the worst part is when he finally returns and finds her dead. Ok here come the water works! Anyways. I voted for none of the above. My movie of Choice is "Stolen Women Captured Hearts".
I love everything about the movie. The stern nature of the hero and the strength of the Heroine. Just when you think that the heroine has no feelings for the hero....she tries to escape, he catched her, they have a fight, he pulls her close and BAM! There is the heart tugging kiss. Makes you feel all warm and cozy inside! What is even more heart felt is when the heroine leaves her husband to take her place at the studly native's side! Nothing like seeing a grown man fall to his knees and cry over the loss of a love. Kinda makes your heart feel like it's on tug of war! Anyways for those that have seen the movie you know what I mean and for those who haven't....you really need to see it! |
