You know... although facing some tough unhappy times ahead, bright happy spots still happen each day. Today I had many of those spots.
My husband felt fairly well today, relatively speaking. I spent a few hours this morning out at the park (Newtown Battlefield) with some friends (Seamus, Jack was one), sorting through junk in the garage of the caretaker's house so it could be cleaned out. I came home with 3 small bookcases that no one wanted, that I can really use. My 23 year old son baked me a birthday cake. Oh. And remember when I was going to buy myself a DVD player about a year ago and never did? Well my son and daughter got me a DVD-player/VCR combo! And last but certainly not least... you all extended your friendship and love to me yet again. Yes. Many bright spots.
Thank you all!
Seamus, you bet I am still counting. 'Tis only a number. However, let's talk about how much I don't like the look of that old lady I see looking back at me in the mirror.

A belated happy birthday, Joyce. Isn't it amazing how those simple things of life can be so enjoyable - especially during challenging, rough spots along the way. Oh, I long for the day when one of my sons surprises me with a birthday cake! What joy!!
You & your hubby continue to be in my thoughts very regularly.

Hey, Wilderness Woman! I don't know you, but you've been recommended by a friend (Sarge) as one of the neatest people he knows. So, I also wish you a heartfelt birthday greeting!
As for the woman looking back at you in the mirror, just remember that she is wiser each day and (I think) more beautiful. I wouldn't say that to just anyone, but from all I've read posted by you, and the above recommendation, you gotta' be one of those women who only gets better with time. The older the violin, the sweeter the music! (I know that is a quote from someone famous (can't remember who), but I first heard it from Gus McCrae in "Lonesome Dove" (Robert Duvall), and that's when I fell in love with Gus. That was a man who knew what real women are!

Rose p.s. If anyone out there is using a Mac (like me) have you noticed that it's impossible to change the color of your font, or change your font at all, for that matter ~ makes me feel like everyone out there is allowed to play 'cept me! At least the little smilies play with me! |

Ditto to everything that Rose said. I have never met Joyce, but just by reading her posts, I know that she has a beautiful soul, and that beauty radiates outwardly. So Joyce, when you look in the mirror from now on, I hope that you just see the beautiful person that you are.

A VERY HAPPY (belated, I'm SO SORRY!!) BIRTHDAY, JOYCE!!
Oh Hon, you're right - it doesn't matter a jot what the 'number' is, it's how you feel inside. And from your posts, I'd say you have retained the wonder of discovery, the joy in experiencing simple pleasures - and you still believe in magic!! That counts FAR MORE than numbers!
Sounds like you had a PERFECT DAY!!! I wish you MANY, MANY MORE such days in the coming year! No one knows what the future holds, but... I'm sure no one is wished a better and brighter one than you!
A 23 year old boy that can bake a cake! What a concept... Wish *I* had one of them!! *sigh*
MANY HAPPY RETURNS, JOYCE!!!!!! |

Mmmmmm....... well, now, Doc M...... that just all depends on how good lookin' and well-muscled that Huron is! You may never see him again! I'm also looking forward to that basket of Gnome goodies. Would that by any chance contain any of those delicious little things you make... you know... the Gnome Tootsie-Toe Tidbits? The way you dip those in chocolate and then just the cute little toe-tips into the chopped nuts....... my mouth is watering already!
Thanks, again, everyone for the Birthday Wishes! |

Don't make me come over there, Joyce!! Retrieving kidnapped Huron couriers is an ugly business and I'm sure you'd prefer not to have Kindly Old Doc M and her little dog Mr. Snookums (check my avatar for his picture) come visit you.
Oh, so you think those crunchy bits on the Gnomie Tootsie Toes are chopped nuts? Well, if it makes you happy to think so...never mind, never mind.

What??? Those crunchy bits aren't nuts???? Well then, they must be... they can only be... but, no... I wouldn't have thought you would have used such a precious and rare commodity... but it must be... well, I'll be.....!! No wonder they are so delicious!!
You know, Doc, there is one easy way to solve this problem you have with your Huron couriers not returning... lower your standards. Stop hiring only the tallest, handsomest, strongest, swiftest Hurons. Be an equal opportunity employer and give the less-qualified Hurons a chance. Then, perhaps the Lovely Ladies of Mohicanland will be less inclined to tie their wrists together and string them to the bedpost.
As for Mr. Snookums.... well, let's just say that Bruiser will be waiting....

"Stop hiring only the tallest, handsomest, strongest, swiftest Hurons?????!!!!!!!!!!" AGGGGGHHHHHH!! *staggers over to fainting couch to put cold compress on forehead* That's it, WW -- you've won an all expenses paid weekend trip to The Mohicanland Clinic for the Terminally Weird for that raving looney tunes suggestion!! You can sit right next to Mr. Federici in the lanyard-weaving room and watch a special double feature showing of Titanic and Pearl Harbor. "JACK!" "ROSE!" "Jack!" "Rose!" "Jack!" "Jack!" "Jack??" "Glub! Glub! Glub!"
As far as Bruiser is concerned, I own a cat named Little Vincent who possesses one fang and breath like parboiled monkey armpits. When he opens his mouth to meow, he doesn't just empty a room -- he causes whole neighborhoods to evacuate! Don't make me have to use him!!!
Sincerely,
Doc M |

Sigh.
Oh, alright, alright. [WW rolls her eyes heavenward in disgust] You win, Doc. Weaving lanyards in the company of the handsome, long-haired Mr. Federici I could easily tolerate. Watching Titanic and Pearl Harbor together in one sitting.... well, that would probably send me 'round the bend for good.
So, quite reluctantly... or not, depending on the physical characteristics of said Huron... I hereby swear that he shall be returned to you, but at my convenience. (Read: "when I am finished with him!")
[WW settles down in her rocking chair next to the hearth to await the anticipated arrival of the Huron courier with the promised gift basket.] |
