Everyone, I have seen the History Channel Investigating History Series show on the Jane McCrea controversy which had a special preview at the Rogers' Island visitors center this past weekend. It is well done and you may want to see it. The show will air nationally this Friday, Nov. 26-8 PM. Be prepared for many scalpings. Regards

Oh goody! There's nothing like a good scalping or two to get one's blood deeply stirred!

Thanks for mentioning this, Tim. I just found out about it last night, and am really looking forward to seeing it.

Also, immediately following that program at 9:00 pm, the History Channel is showing a "Battlefield Detectives" program that focuses on the Battle of Monmouth. Historians, archaeologists, etc. will take a look at a variety of things, including the effects of wearing a heavy wool uniform on the hottest day of the year in New Jersey! Should be very interesting, as well.

Rick Salazar does the scalping...David Starbuck will be doing the dig narrative..Look for Eileen Hannay who is the very good director of the Rogers'Island Visitors Center. We all got together Saturday evening for the preview. The commercials hadn't been inserted yet. This is an hour show and is of high quality. Last winter, there was a very big controversy here over whether opening Jane's grave was necessary to advance the historic record. The viewer should make his or her own mind up about that. Duncan Campbell's grave is right next to Jane's and you may get a peek of his liver colored headstone. Duncan is the F&I soldier from Scotland who was warned by a ghost that he would die at Ti during the Abercrombie assault-and, he did. (from wounds).
LOTS & LOTS OF SCALPING.

It's about time the History Channel did something other than air old "Modern Marvels" repeats. I've stopped watching it mostly.

I remember the local news reporting about this during the summer. Apparently they weren't able to find McCrae's skull or any modern descendant to confirm a dna match with remains that were found. I also picked up Starbuck's new book, but haven't had time to read it yet. If I had the History Channel I'd would be watching. As it is, all I have is a few local channels that barely come in.

I recently purchased the VHS tape of the History Channel show. I particularly like the emphasis that the show placed on the historical significance on Jane's dramatic death.

The most affecting thing for me in the scalping scenes is the way the head of Jane's re-enactor was jerked around by the process. It dramatizes the violence of the act.

We become what we think about.
