Dear Board, I'm working on my graphic portfolio and have 2 samples of work for my son's CD cover. I thought I'd upload my samples and get some reaction... but it must be completely honest. If you don't like it, or love it completely, or anything in between, let me know. His music is not my cup of tea. It's sort of heavy, semi-grunge, almost mellow rock. I need to see if it will appeal to his target audience - late teen/young adults +. Even if you aren't in that category, take a look!
merci beaucoup, Rose

I would think that the top cover-art works for music described as 'mellow-grunge', the bottom would be fantastic for a more 'upbeat' style. Just my thoughts...

Thanks, Sarge! I can see your point. Mellow-Grunge is a good term for his music. I listened to his demo, which he recorded and mixed himself, and I was honestly impressed with the sound, not just because I'm his Momma! They've gotten a couple of Paying gigs around campus (U of Ill) and seem to be well received. Haven't most great bands started out in the garage? If anyone remembers Cheap Trick (from my childhood home town in Illinois) and REO Speedwagon from Urbana-Champaign where Cody lives, they did pretty well for themselves! I believe Cheap Trick might even still be working out there somewhere, no?
It's what he loves to do, and I'm glad he's pursuing it! |

I agree with Rich. Both are really nice, but I like the top one best. Does your son have any stuff on mp3, Rose? I'd love to hear some of it. My prior incarnation was as a pop music writer. And Cheap Trick IS still alive and well and touring occasionally. They hit the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach at least once a year... Christina |

Thanks Rich and Christina!
I like the top one myself.
I've done a few more, and I feel pretty good about them. I can almost guess which one he'll pick! I had to design a variety as part of the usual design process. It's always good to have feedback, so please feel free!
