I have been wondering is anyone else here likes Duncan the best. I like him because he is a British Red Coat and is slightly Heroic. Anyone else?

Like Duncan? The man who donned the disguise, entered the enemy villiage, saved the girl, and by the end of the book, marrys her? What's not to like?

| I liked Duncan, but only after he sacrified his life for Cora. He knew that Hawkeye could get her to safety and reunite her with her sister better than he could. Imagine loving someone that much! |

My opinion of the movie Duncan is that he is "a man with a few admirable qualities, but taken as a whole, I was wrong to have thought so highly of" him. He is arrogant, demanding, impatient, hot-headed, and was not a man of honor. He did, of course, partially redeem himself in the end when he offered his life so that Hawkeye and Cora could be together.

| Duncan has his good and bad points.For certain,he does not come across as the foppish British Officer(according to author Stephen Brumwell)as is the Hollywood stereotype. |

Duncan was alright up until he lied to Colonel Monroe, about what he had seen at the Cameron farm, which effects snowballed into Hawkeye's arrest for sedition.
He did redeem himself in the end, trading his life for Cora's...

| Duncan's character comes accross better on the DVD with the addition of the "diversion scene." Whatever his faults, he displays himself as a competant British officer, cool under fire. This is not scene in the movie/VHS version, so I respect Duncan a bit more on DVD. |
