Hello All,
Ever since I started this tale, or collection of short stories (You can read them as either), I have been asked a couple of questions. After answering these questions, I thought to myself, "What if other folks out there have the same questions?" So I have included some of the most common ones, along with my answers. If you have any, besides the ones listed below, just post them here and I shall endeavor to answer them.
Question #1: Hey Sarge, I noticed that some of the parts of your story are dead-on historically, but others are not even close. What gives?
(A) You are right, some of the aspects are historically correct, and others are not. This is an experiment in Historical Fiction, and I have to make some adjustments for time/place to help the story weave together.
Question #2: I have heard of the Queen's Royal American Rangers, but weren't they disbanded after December 1763?
(A) Correct, they were, by order of General Amherst, before his recall. I have included them as a 'what-if' type of situation, that being what-if General Gage prempted the disbandment order. This is not as far from fact as it would appear, since General Gage was known as a proponent of Light Infantry & Ranger Units. (ie. He was instrumental in the formation of the 80th Regiment of Lightly-Armed Foote in 1758)
Question #3: Have you ever thought about publishing these, or giving the series of stories a title?
(A) I don't think that I am good enough to 'go to press', but I have given some thought to a title for this series. I kinda like the following: The King's Shilling: The Life and Times of Duncan Munro of the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment
Question #4: Hey Sarge, your stories suck! What do you think you are, Tom Clancy?
(A) Well, you can't please everyone, so move your little mouse pointer up to the toolbar and hit the 'back' button. This way you do not have to read them.
Question #5: Don't you think your stories are somewhat graphic and violent?
(A) Yes they are, then again the actual frontier of Western Pennsylvania was a very graphic and violent place during the 1750's & 60's. Some even argue that it is no better today...
Question #6: Why did you start your story in 1763?
(A) The reason I did start the story, somewhat past the 'middle', was for no other reason than to be different. After I reach the end, I will then 'rewind the tape', so to speak, and start at the begining. This way, when I go into all the backgrounds, folks will already have a grasp on how the characters turn out, and why.
As I said above, these are only the most common questions. If you have any to add, please do post them here. In the meantime, I will be working to finish the next two installments: "Into the Belly of the Beast" -and- "Man-O-War"
Thank You Again, I Remain, Your Most Humble Servant,

You are right, Carter, it also makes one re-check what they are writting to see if improvements can be made. The person who made that statement had more of a problem with me, not what I was writting...

I have a favorite saying for situations such as these which has comforted me many times in the face of petty or unjustified criticism: "It takes a carpenter to build a barn, but any "donkey" can kick one down." LOL |

Hee hee - that's a funny one - Tom Clancy is not an author I would merrily compare anyone to - not his greatest fan. A REAL writer to compare your work to well.... I'll get back to you sarg but hey hope you're ego wasn't dented! Sounds like a wee bit of jealousy to me, keep writing - your stories are great! ... publish a book that would kick his ass into touch!
