Well, I could be wrong...
It was my understanding that three new companies were raised in the north in early '45, while the regiment was stationed in the south, and that these companies didn't join the regiment, but were kept in Scotland for "policing" duty.
One of the three was at Prestopans, but I hadn't been aware that any had served at Culloden.

Thanks for the info, Edmond, I'll add those to my "list".
As far as the movie goes, one has to wonder: If Sayles wants to do a McGillivray, why doesn't he do Lachlan and his son?

You're welcome. It would make sense to do it that way,but I'm certain that Sayles has a reason.I believe that actor Robert Carlyle will have a lot of say in this one as well.I'm ecstatic that a movie on the 18th century is being done at all.I just hope that its done properly.Ony time will tell. You can even contact John Sayles directly.Check out:www.johnsaylesretro.com

I just wish for once, that the British would not be portrayed as the harbringers of evil and dread. The public needs some sort of basic education in American Colonial History. The best example for the need can be demonstrated every year at Ft. Ligonier, the second most moronic remark of the public is, "Well, we really whipped you redcoats in the end, huh?, How'bout 'em Stillers, ya think Coach Cower will finally get his passin' game down right, eh?". The first prize goes to the following statement, "So are youz guys on the North's or the South's side?, where is General Lee anyways? lets get us a beer and one 'em pretzels, we gotta go 'cause Yites Kidaditsky and his Polka Commandos are play'n up at the town square now, later." Runner up for moronic stements, is the time tested "Is that ___(insert: fire/gun/tent/baby) real?"

Yes,the average person in the Pittsburgh area has not a clue as to what happened here 248 years ago.And does not want to know either.Last year at Penn's Colony some Joe SixPack asked me if we didn't have a revolution to"throw you redcoats out".This year at Ligonier, while dressed in my regimentals & kilt of the 42nd RHR I was asked if I was"with the band"I swear that I am not making this up.To them the French&Indian War is as alien as Ancient Egypt. What kind of history courses are they teaching in the schools today?True,we did win 2d place at the St.Patrick's Day Parade this year when we marched with the 60th,but that is only because all of the drunks liked to watch the 60th shoot off their guns.Whenever I lose focus on the matter,I always remember what one of my mentors,Dick Watkins,a crusty old veteran of the 77th had to say on the subject:"They're all a bunch of %@!%**$?! immigrants around here, whaddya expect?"Well put Richard.EM

Speaking of Ancient Egypt, I seem to recall our photographic evidence that both the Egyptians as well as the Sweedes flew their respective colors over Ft. Ligonier. If "Major Grant" ever sees THOSE pictures, smart money says he'll vapor-lock on the spot.

I agree.I'm thinking that for this new movie, wouldn't it be cool if John Sayles had smoe notable names in this production. He usually doesn't put big names in,but what if he had R.Lee Ermy playing a Sergeant in one of the British Regiments,Wes Studi as one of the natives etc.The possibilities are endless here

Actually, Captain, I'm thinking of Tom Vecchio as the War Captain Guyasuta (or Khyasuta, depending on spelling), Ed Highlander as Col. Bouquet, Mike Slease as Col. Armstrong, Lance Wilson as the Marquis de Montcalm, Malcom MacWilliam as Col. Montgomery of the 77th and Ed Vogler as Maj. Allen Campbell of the 42nd. Whaddya think????

We could also have Lady Munro's "friend", the prosperisly large 'Blue Shawnee' play the role of King Hendrick. Remember what happened to him during the 'Bloddy Morning Scout' of 1755?

My bad Two Kettles,my mind is still set in the mode for our current production"George Washington's First War:The Battle for Ft.Duquesne."(www.paladincom.com)as we just wrapped up filming and not on Sayle's "Jamie MacGilivray".(both will be shot in SW Pennsylvania though)Actually when we film the Third in the Trilogy encompassing "Pontiac's Uprising" we would like to use some stuff from "The UnConquored"If Sayles uses some as well, that would be cool.I think that he stated that he only wanted to go up to the "Battle of Quebec" in 1760.It would be great if he could stretch it to 1763 howeverLet us know if you come across any more skinny on Sayles.EM

Sgt. Munro,
While I entirely agree with your feelings about the current pop culture attitudes toward "the noble savage" (Rousseau must be laughing his head off, wherever he is), I think if there's anybody in the Hollywood mainstream who can do the F&I War period justice, it's Sayles. I think the best thing is to watch, wait, and try to keep as informed as possible as the project develops. A colonial "Dances" is hardly needed, but a colonial "Lone Star" could be really something.

I would still rather see Sayles make a movie based on the Allan Eckert 'Winning of America' Series. Most notably, "Wilderness Empire" and "The Conquorers".
