This is a bit random, but was reading a Hans Christian Andersen story the other day "The Brave Tin Soldier" and noticed some parallels between the story and that of the Uncas and Alice part of the story in LoTM! Obviously ignoring the part about him only having one leg...but when the little soldier is near to death he thinks of a song and remembers the lines "Farewell, warrior! ever brave,Drifting onward to thy grave." which reminded me of the way Uncas battles to save Alice in the face of grave danger. The absence of words between the fated couple is also similar, as is the manner in which they both meet their death, thinking of each other, or at least the little tin soldier thinking of his love the beautiful(but distant) ballerina. a little far fetched maybe...but just a fun thought!
