Past the politics, past everything that is possibly wrong about this country...post what you love about America! It can be anything from food to culture. You name it.

Me? The fact that I can practically do what I want. The fact that iI can talk, speak my mind, walk, run, and do anything I please. That's Freedom.

But also, our food. America seems to have a mix of all cultural foods that we're lucky to have a variety of things. But I'm sure noone can pass down a good hamburger unless you're vegetarian.

Also, I must admit...the ladies. I'll just say I'm glad I live on the beach.

I also love our Nation's History.Although my interest mainly involves The Texas Revolution...just seeing the heart and dedication that went into forging this country is simply amazing.

So,now, I'll leave the thread open to you. What do you love about our country?

Excellent question, Young-un! Very thought-provoking.

I have been fortunate enough to have traveled through a great deal of this great country of ours, and I would have to say that one of the many things I love about her is her amazing beauty.

Just think about it. We have it all! We have towering glacier-capped mountains, deep rocky canyons, caves that stretch deep into the ground, vast flat prairies and high plains, dripping rain forests, 100+ degree arid deserts, oceans, beaches, lakes, rivers and streams of all sizes... there just isn't much of anything left out. Our climates range from the southern tropics all the way to the frigid north. A person could spend a lifetime exploring this beautiful land of ours. I wish I could do more!

The other thing I love best about her is her heritage. Her rich history, all the way back to the beginnings of mankind setting foot on her soil simply fascinates me. And as you all know, for I have said it ad nauseum, I especially love the Colonial part of her history -- the events that happened to allow us to become a great nation.

I must agree with all you wrote above and add cultural diversity. I live in a very diverse state, and it enriches our lives immensely. I feel sorry for those who miss out on our experiences with people of other cultures.

I love her for many, many things ... of them all, I love her most for the priciples upon which she was founded. One can cite many instances of times we didn't live up to those principles, but still, they are our foundation. They are what we aspire to be ...

Wow Wade, this is a good topic!!!! You're alright by me, if you ever get a chance to come out east to an event that me and the lads are at, you are more than welcome to bunk with us!!!! Sorry that I am a wee bit late, since I was enroute to Ft. Niagara when you posted, so I hope you don't mind if I toss my two cents worth in now...

The thing I love most about our country is that no matter who you parents were, you too could rise to high public or private office. Also, the fact that we have a strong sense of 'right & wrong' as well as a commitment to 'fair play' (I think baseball personifies the real America the best). Another thing is our high standard of living, and no this is not done by 'robbing' other peoples (as some coffee table intelectuals would have you believe), it was done by hard work and the belief that freedom is the cure for the human condition.

Just a rather short list of my thoughts...

I would have to agree with you Wade and say that freedom is what I love best about America. Just to be able to voice your opinions whether they are right or wrong, means alot to me. When I saw this subject line, it immediately made me think of when late at night, all of the shows would go off the air, before cable and satellite, that is. Anyway, I used to listen to John Wayne narrate, "America; Why I Love Her." Here are the lyrics:

America, Why I Love Her
Written by John Mitchum
Poet/Actor

You ask me why I love her? Well, give me time, and I'll explain...
Have you seen a Kansas sunset or an Arizona rain?
Have you drifted on a bayou down Louisiana way?
Have you watched the cold fog drifting over San Francisco Bay?

Have you heard a Bobwhite calling in the Carolina pines?
Or heard the bellow of a diesel in the Appalachia mines?
Does the call of Niagara thrill you when you hear her waters roar?
Do you look with awe and wonder at a Massachusetts shore...
Where men who braved a hard new world, first stepped on Plymouth Rock?
And do you think of them when you stroll along a New York City dock ?

Have you seen a snowflake drifting in the Rockies...way up high?
Have you seen the sun come blazing down from a bright Nevada sky?
Do you hail to the Columbia as she rushes to the sea...
Or bow your head at Gettysburg...in our struggle to be free?

Have you seen the mighty Tetons? ...Have you watched an eagle soar?
Have you seen the Mississippi roll along Missouri's shore?
Have you felt a chill at Michigan, when on a winters day,
Her waters rage along the shore in a thunderous display?
Does the word "Aloha"... make you warm?
Do you stare in disbelief When you see the surf come roaring in at Waimea reef?

From Alaska's gold to the Everglades...from the Rio Grande to Maine...
My heart cries out... my pulse runs fast at the might of her domain.
You ask me why I love her?... I've a million reasons why.
My beautiful America... beneath Gods' wide, wide sky.

~ An Infinite Zephyr~
Some things never end
As long as goodness exists
Winds shall always soothe

Have wanted to reply to the topic for awhile now, but had surgery on my right wrist and am now just able to even peck it out

Being a military wife, the first thing that comes to mind is PRIDE. The pride we have being Americans. We now have a totally volunteer military. We have enough pride in our country that our young men and women WANT to protect her and the freedom that our for fathers fought for. Pride... when someone has pride for something they take care of it. Thus the beauty of our country, take care of its rivers,
lakes and oceans. Take care of the natural resorces it provides us with. If we all had PRIDE... can you even imagine what it would be like here?

There are many wonderful things about this country, more then this tired hand can type. But like said, we have this wonderful freedom here to do and say what we want without retrebution. Take Pride in that, show pride. BE PROUD....

Support our Country, our President and our Troops
