Well, isn't it typical?! I've just been over to Dougie Maclean's site and guess what? He's not long back from his American tour last month! Day 6 he was in? CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA, that's where! And Day 8? FLORIDA! Day 1 he was in Austin Texas, Day 2 Little Rock Arkansas, Day 4 Selerville, PA...
Anybody catch him while he was there?

aagggggh!!!! Dougie was IN CHARLOTTE???? And I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT!!! That's only 90 minutes from my house!!! Oh well, shows you how out of the loop I am!!! I don't even know what concerts are coming through anymore...that's what happens when you go from covering concerts to religions. Now I just sit over here in the corner all day, harvest the e-mails from the latest spiritual wingnuts, type in Vacation Bible School listings...AND READ THIS BOARD, O'COURSE!!! I agree with Rich. Anybody sees Dougie, point him OUR way!!! Boy would he be perfect for Mohican Gathering!!! Anyway, back to the wingnuts... Christina |

Last year I tried HARD to convince Dougie to come to our Gathering (the MacLeod has played with him and his band on occasion in Scotland so there is a bit of a connection there), but his touring schedule was already set in stone...and we would have had to move the Gathering to May to accommodate. And there was that little matter of his concert fee...it is a non-negotiable $10,000.00 per show. |

$10,000.00???????? I don't know who he is, but he must be awfully good at whatever it is that he does. I don't think that we will be able to afford him at the Gatherings any time soon, unless we start getting people to dig really deep in their pockets!!!

Yep! Sure is a lot of money! But... to be honest, that's actually CHEAP for a group! Dougie now takes a stringed Ensemble, sometimes a Rock Band, as well as the four members (Pete Clark, Graham Mulholland, John Morran and Jamie MacLean) of his own Celtic band, with him on tour. When you work out how much each man will be paid, plus the cost of flying them, and their tons of equipment, out to each of their American 'dates', $10,000.00 actually has to go a loooong way.
But I agree - I think he's just a leeeetle bit too expensive for the Gathering, more's the pity... *sigh*...
Oh, by the way, Kay... Dougie wrote the music 'The Gael', which is the tune we know as 'The Kiss'. He's Scottish and lives in a very pretty (and very historic) town not far from here.
