Well in my collection I have (in no particular order):

Capitaine Conan (A French language film about elite French trench raiders in the Bulgaria area during the end of WWI)
Das Boot
Glory
The Thin Red Line
Ride With the Devil
LOTM
Henry V

I would also add to the list Band of Brothers the best WWII film in my opinion.

I have always loved the older WWII movies:

Tora, Tora, Tora
From Here to Eternity
To Hell and Back
Midway
Stalag 17
Any WWII movie with John Wayne in it!

But I have to say that the most realistic, the most moving and emotionally upsetting of them all has to be "Schindler's List." Words simply cannot describe...

Gotta agree with Glory, Gettysburg and LOTM as I haven't seen most of the others.

I don't know if it really qualifies as a war movie, but there was the section where he was in Vietnam...Born on the Fourth of July.

I thought of another one I want to add: Dances With Wolves

Technically, it is not a "war" movie, yet it is about the war between the American Indians and the White Man and the horrible aggressive methods of the latter. Beautiful movie! It wrenches my heart everytime I watch it.

One war movie I was really looking forward to was Windtalkers. I read the book several years back on the Navajo code talkers and it was captivating. Hollywood took an excellent story and turned it into a mediocre film. John Woo went completely overboard with the depiction of the horrors of war and Nicholas Cage phoned his part in. Adam Beach did an admirable job, just too bad the movie bombed. It would have made him well known.

Yep, could have been a good film. But the instant John Woo got involved, it went straight to the crapper. Nick Cage is equally awful in any thing he does. Too bad those two were involved. I won't touch anything with Woo or Cage, can't stand them at all.
