Was Montcalm the only historically based character in the film?

No Munro, Bougainville and Webb were historic figures that were actually envolved in the battle/siege of Ft. William Henry....

I also had family who were there.. one day I'll write up the story of the massacre from one of my ancestors point of view...

"The scum of every nation gravitates to the frontier."
Benjamin Franklin 1750

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for
lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."
Benjamin Franklin 1759

The existence of flamethrowers is proof that someone, somewhere, said to himself, "I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't feel like walking over there to do it."

"Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a
drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist."

Yes, Joe, DO THAT! Would be very interested in that!

I might add, too, that many of the fictional characters were based on conglomerations of real-life characters ... Hawkeye, Duncan, et al. Peruse our Mohican Musings ...

Historically speaking, one of my favorite real life "characters" is Bougainville. First, I find his journals from 1756-1760 fascinating ("Adventures in the Wilderness"). It is really enlightening to see how he starts our rather naive and becomes more and more informed and cynical as each year passes. He has some interesting comments on the Indians, in particular: "They [Delewares and Shawnees] have eaten an English officer whose pallor and plumpness tempted them." And second, I find it interesting that after the F&I War, Bougainville became one of France's most famous and successful explorers, and we are indebted to him for the beautiful bougainville plant.

For those who have not read his journals, I encourage you to do so!

YHOS,
English Trader
