What's this one, the Sobig.F virus, or some damn thing?

Pretty much all I've done for just about the past 48-72 hours is to delete infected E-mails. I may have inadvertently deleted some good ones, so if you've sent stuff my way - and I don't answer - please do so again!

These things, with subject lines like Re: The Movie, Your Details, Your Account ... stuff like that, weigh in at over 100KB each ... I've received, to this point, maybe a couple of thousand - they are pouring in as I type.

This is bad. Many Internet systems have shut down their E-mail servers because of this. The little buggers forge legitimate addresses so that it looks like some company is sending the stuff. Everyone is fair game, I suppose. We get hit because our E-mail address is on every web page, and we've got hundreds of web pages, some ranked very high in the search engines ... a harvester's delight!

Anyway, I'm catching them all via my anti-virus software, but the usual precautions are to be taken. DON'T OPEN ATTACHMENTS FROM THOSE YOU DON'T KNOW!!! And, better yet, don't open any attachments at all, from anyone - remember, they FORGE addresses - unless a mention is made in the e-mail that something is attached and/or you are expecting something, and you know the sender.

Be really careful.

This thing, as I understand it, does no real harm to your computer, but, if opened & allowed to spawn, harvests every E-mail addy on your system for use in the spam industry. PLUS, of course, it wreaks havoc with Internet traffic.

Just wanted to let you know about this, if you don't already ... Till it stops, I'll be scarce. For one thing, my connection has been unbearably slow as my computer has to download all this crap!

Well, back to deleting ...

Holy Cow!! A couple thousand?!? Oh my gosh!

I would just like to add this piece of advice:

Get On-line Virus Protection!!

I use McAfee, but I know that Norton is good too. I don't want to sound like an advertisement, but I only pay $31.15 a year and the peace of mind alone is well worth it! They notify me of updates at least once a week, which I download in seconds.

With this kind of crap going on, nobody can afford not to have this kind of a program!

Also, if your computer should become infected, both McAfee and Symantec (Norton) have removal tools which can be downloaded for free.

Might be too late to use the removal tools then. The Blaster virus prevented access to anti virus software.

I'm quite annoyed.

I've been using Norton for seven or eight years, both on a Mac and PC.

No yearly fee for updates.

Now I've purchased a new pc with Norton bundled in, and it seems that after 30 or 60 days, I'm going to have to pay a yearly fee.
