Since we're on the subject of humorous books, I recommend the cookbooks/memoirs of retired Alaska State Trooper Gordon R. Nelson. There are three (I found them at a used bookstore):

Lowbush Moose (1978)

Smokehouse Bear (1982)

Tired Wolf (And the Recipes He Pursued) (1985)

Nelson talks about growing up in Alaska and working in canneries as a boy. Many of the recipes were collected while he traveled on State Trooper business. There are plenty of fun stories and recipes for moose (you can substitute beef ) and other wild game--including smoked bear. I wonder what Hawkeye and Co. would make of that??
