In Greenville, SC, it is probably the worst damage I have ever seen in my lifetime. Local damage, yes, but this is all over the area. North Carolina is much worse. From what I can tell, some of the mountain areas are almost completely wiped out. The town of Chimney Rock is gone. Much of Asheville is gone or is under water. Many of the roads are simply washed away including portions of I-40 going toward Tennessee. They have never experienced this before. It will be years before they recover.

I have not hears anything about Rich, of the town of Marion, so maybe they are OK. They are a ways from Asheville.

A lot of places in that area have no power and no cell service as the towers were damaged. They have even set up satellite service in places until the cell service is restored. It might be that Rich has no way to communicate or even see his own web site.

So far nothing back from Rich - you're likely right - no service. - I saw some pics of Asheville - looked like a N. Carolina version of Venice, Italy - completely flooded.

Among the communities affected by Hurricane Helene is the village of Chimney Rock, North Carolina, which has been described as being “washed away.”

In a thread on X, Evan Donovan, a news anchor with WSOC-TV in Charlotte posted photos and videos showcasing the damage to the “tourist town.”

I heard from Dianna McCormick that Rich is OK but has no service of any kind.

Chimney Rock village is gone, washed into Lake Lure. All the places I used to visit there are gone. It's hard to get my mind around that. We had fraternity parties there 60 years ago. I raced in the sports car Hillclimb there. Had dinner with my daughter there a few years ago. Went there on Milliken Company picnics. Visited the LOTM locations there. Now it has just disappeared.
