Quite a number of years ago - when I was MUCH younger and hiking quite a bit - I did find one or to "stone piles" out in the woods. - Never gave it/them any thought - except it seemed "strange" than anyone would take the time pile a bunch of rocks together. - This makes A LOT more sense than someone doing that just for the hell of it.

Come to think of it I did post something here on stone piles/walls a while back. - Most of these "stone things" were used to mark trails used by the local Abenaki in Vermont primarily. - Similar things were used by the Cherokee I believe.
