This thread is dedicated to the unique rapid fire weapons of the Victorian Era. Weapon systems bearing the names Gatling, Nordenfelt, Gardner and Mitrailleuse were the rapid-fire support systems that predate the Maxim Gun of 1887 (the original automatic machine gun). These weapons, used as support to infantry and/or artillery, were meant to augment the disparity in numbers between European and Native combatants.

The following article was found at the Fields of Thunder website. It contains information about a most interesting piece of rapid-fire field ordinance, the Hotchkis Revolving Cannon:
One of the more unusual artillery weapons employed against the Indians was the 37mm Hotchkiss revolving cannon. During the Milk River Campaign of 1879 the Hotchkiss revolving cannon was used against Sitting Bull's warriors.
This rare revolving cannon has 5- 37mm barrels, capable of firing 43 rounds a minute with an accuracy range of 2000 yards (approximately 1 mile). Each feed magazine holds 10 rounds, weighing approximately 18 lbs. The revolving cannon is accompanied by a horse drawn limber, which holds 110 rounds plus 6 magazines totaling 170 rounds.

I've always been a fan of the 20mm Vulcan "mini-gun" myself.
