My daughter is a Certified Nursing Assistant, working in a nursing home in my area. One of the residents she cares for is a man who is a WWII Army veteran. She tried several times to get him to tell her about his military service. Finally, he reluctantly told her that he was an Army medic, stationed at Schofield Barracks. He was there on this day, 60 years ago.

Regardless of training, - I would think being in a medical unit during war time would be something you'd NEVER forget.

Of course, I do. Thank you, Fitz, for reminding me that Math never was my strong suit.

Yes, MG, I cannot imagine the horror of having severely wounded men dying under your hands while you struggle helplessly to save them.

Six month before I was born. It means that the youngest of the survivors will now be very close to 90. And most over 90. It's a shame to see that era go.

Yes, it is sad, Fitz. Especially because my Dad will soon be one of the "old soldiers who just fade away."

Forgive me if I have talked about this before -- when he goes, he will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery, near Portland, Oregon. My mother is there, and he will join her in the columbaria niche (for cremations). Each year when I go out to visit him, we go up to the cemetery, which is up on a hilltop that has a commanding view of Mount Hood.

They are struggling to keep up with the demand for ground space and columbaria space. The rate of growth right now is incredible. Not only are we losing the WWII veterans by the hundreds every day, we are also losing Korean veterans and even Viet Nam vets. I can walk along the wall and see all three wars represented.

Sadly, we ARE forgetting ... other than here, I did not hear one mention of the day being Pearl Harbor Day in my dealings with folks ... and, I work with the public. One middle-aged gent even asked me who died when he noticed the flag at the Post Office at half-mast.

There were some pretty good shows on TV about it. Documentaries that went a little more into depth that the usual. But Wednesday night at a meetup group, only those over 60 knew what day it was.

.
James, I believe the last Veteran from that was just passed away, over 100 years old. Frankly, I don't recall if he was American or British.
