Yes, my daughter felt that, too. We live outside Philadelphia. Hm...I must have been caught in traffic and distracted because I didn't feel it. |

Felt it here in Chesapeake, VA for sure! Born in Norfolk, VA in 1956...lived my entire life in this part of VA & eastern NC... and this is the first time I have EVER experienced an earthquake in these parts!!! It was definitely a very strange & unsettling experience!!!
I was at work, making follow-up calls to check on pets that had been seen at our hospital over the past several days. All of a sudden, the chair I was sitting in, and the front desk/counter area, and the floor, and the entire building, began to kind of shake & rock back & forth! My first thought was, "Wow, that is one heck of a gust of wind!" But it had NOT been a windy day & a quick glance out the window confirmed that the wind wasn't blowing much at all!
The very next thought that crossed my mind was "Whoa - was that an earthquake?!" But I've never been through an earthquake before & they're a very uncommon occurrence in these parts, so I was extremely surprised to learn that it WAS, in fact, an earthquake! This thing made the Evening News with Brian Williams & apparently our lil ol' 5.9 quake was felt in no less than 22 states! |

I was sitting in my car in a nice shady spot overlooking Highway 221 (Main Street in Marion, NC), listening to the radio. Suddenly, my car started shaking - for a good 7-10 seconds. My first thought was that a gust of wind was shaking the car -- no wind, though. Then, I thought maybe one of my buds saw me parked there and decided to sneak up behind the car and shake it -- no bud, though. So, I just dismissed it and continued eating my lunch. The host of the radio show I was tuned to was at a commercial break during this time. When he came back - and he was broadcasting from NYC! - he started talking about how his chair and monitor had been shaking and he thought he was going crazy. I thought, "How weird, we were both shaking ant the same time." Then, he said he was watching the TV monitor and that there were reports of an earthquake south of DC.
And that was my exciting story of the day. |
