Tea Party target Stupak won't seek re-election

Associated Press/AP Online

By JOHN FLESHER

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak of Michigan tells The Associated Press that he'll retire from Congress rather than seek a 10th term this year.

Stupak has drawn criticism from opponents of the recently enacted health care overhaul after leading a bloc of anti-abortion Democrats whose last-minute support was crucial to its approval by the House.

The Tea Party Express is calling for his defeat at rallies in his sprawling northern Michigan district this week.

But Stupak tells the AP the attacks didn't influence his decision and he could win re-election if he tried.

He plans to announce his decision at an afternoon news conference at Northern Michigan University.

He says he wants to spend more time with his family and start a new career after 18 years in Congress.

Sarge's Assesment: This cowardly chameleon had it coming to him! He will be one of many Democrats looking to 'get on with their lifes-work' after November, and rightfully so. We have, for the time being, a Represenative Republic where the power to govern is based only on the consent of the electorate. When you fail to properly represent your district/state, then you deserve to be given your walking-papers.

For those who support these Socialists, I wouldn't get too teary-eyed, for they will be back as 'K-Street Lobbyists'. This will be the pay-off for falling on their sword for 'The One'. These are the same lobbyists who 'Barry' said would not be in the Oval Office; but they are, and in record numbers! And before some brown-shirter here cries "foul", just take a look at the most registered 'guest' at the White House, who is none other than head union-thug SEIU President Andrew Stern, with 22 visits in 15 months. BTW, other notables include folks from ACORN, and the unrepentant domestic-terrorist William Ayers (Or as Obama described him as "just a guy who lived on my street")

"See, I told you so..."

Well shadawick, I may be right on this; but with where this country has been headed since late 2006,
there are times that I wish I wasn't

I agree Theresa, he will be back as yet another Obama Administration lackey ('czar' or other department head), or as a 'K-Street' lobbyist (as I noted above). Either way, when it happens I will be here to point it out, and remind everyone of this Democrat's 'honesty & integrity'; especially since he stated that the reason for his retirement was 'to spend more time with his family'
