What is disorderly conflict??? ;) . Fayette County man fires cannonball through neighbor's house. . Thursday, September 03, 2009 By Kaitlynn Riely, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Police said a man in Georges Township, Fayette County, fired a metal cannon that sent a two-pound lead ball into his neighbor's house.
William Edward Maser, 54, fired the cannon in his yard on Tent Church Road Wednesday evening, said Trooper Brian Burden of the Pennsylvania State Police. He said he was not sure how regularly Mr. Maser fired his cannon.
The cannon shot a lead ball through the side of his neighbor's house, breaking a window and traveling through a wall before landing in a clothes closet. No one was injured.
The cannon is an 80-pound homemade replica of cannons used during the French and Indian War. It has been impounded as evidence.
Mr. Maser regularly participates in battle re-enactments, Trooper Burden said.
He has been charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and disorderly conflict.

OH, that's just wonderful. Now every reproduction cannon in the state of Pennsylvania (and probably New York, too) will be barred from being fired at re-enactments. Never mind the fact that they don't use cannon balls.
Good grief. Some people are just so stupid, it is unbelievable.

I've seen other news reports saying the guy was a Civil War re-enactor. I was really hoping he wasn't "one of ours." |

The only thing that suprises me about this story is that he didn't re-load for a second round... This is 'Fayette-Nam' after all, and such interactions among the locals is not at all unusual.
I remember a story I heard from a friend of mine, who is a trooper at PSP Uniontown Barracks. He told of how two local hamlets volunteer fire companies would have their yearly softball game, which would turn into a drunken melee. All local cops and the PSP, would have to go and fight the two teams of drunken firefighters, in order to restore calm; and then the rest of the year, you wouldn't have an ounce of trouble from the citizens of those neighboring towns. It was almost like a annual test of the abilities of their law enforcement officers, given by those citizens.
So, the first time he encountered this voyage to the 'Twilight Zone', he was at the barracks when the call came in, and his corporal said, "Come on Kid, we have to go and settle the annual VFC softball game and fist-fight competition." Rising from the report desk, he strapped on his gunbelt, when his corporal added, "Naw, leave it Kid, just bring your nightstick or blackjack. If you bring your gun, they will think you are cheating."

P.S.- And I think what the 'news-bunny' meant to write was Disorderly Conduct (Sec. 5503 of the PA Crimes Code); but this is yet another example of how those stalwarts of journalistic 'integrity' at the PG get their facts 'straight'. (Which is why I cancelled my subscription over 15 years ago) |
