Is this like "ignorance is bliss"?? I've always wondered about that!! The more one knows, the more depressing the world and life can be?? Many Flags (iced in and loving it) |

Quite possibly so, Flags. I know the less tv news I watch, the less newspaper reading I do, the more oblivious to the world I am, there is a calm that settles over me.

This is one of the great philosophical questions of all time (I'm taking over for Many Flags who is outside deicing the cabin steps so he can get to the woodshet!!). If education is so good, then why can it make one so depressed? Is it best to know the ills of the world (educated!), to read, to learn about man's inhumanity to man, to realize the world is corrupt, to become jaded to life's "pleasures", to know people for what they really are; but also to appreciate Shakespere, Debussey, Jackson Pollock, Locke, Robert Burns, etc., etc. I'm not sure "ignorance is bliss" is a true theorum.....BUT, I know it's more difficult to be upbeat about the world and the success of civilization as we become more "worldly" and "educated".....Pax Aye! Dr. Uncle Mark (Ahhh, Many Flags is finished with the cabin steps, so I'm off to Syracuse Univ. to pick up daughter Katie for the holidays!!) |
