Greetings all,
The Great Mohican Gathering 2008 is less than 2 weeks away, and I meant to send this message out earlier. As most everyone knows, we have an auction and raffle for a beautiful little girl named Ariel Boutette. For those of y'all that don't know, Ariel was born without eyes and other problems that affect her heart, lungs, and spinal cord. Ariel has had many surgeries and hospital bills mount up, so we try to help as much as we can by holding this auction for her. If you would like to know a little more about Ariel, you can go to Ariel's Little Corner of Mohicanland" on this site. Just click on this link: http://www.mohicanpress.com/ariels_little_corner.html or you can go to another site for Ariel: http://www.noeyes.com/
To be able to raise money for Ariel, we need donations for the auction. The donations can be most anything. Anything relating to LOTM is always good, or anything around that time period. Anything Native American is great or if you are one of the talented ones that know how to sew, quilt, paint, or have any other talent and you want to make something, then that would be wonderful!!! We also had people make baskets that had items from their state in them. They were a big hit. So, just anything that you would like to donate would be dearly appreciated!!!
If you will be at the Gathering, then you can just bring your donations with you. If you want to help Ariel out but won't be able to attend the Gathering, then you can email to me at gi_kyo@yahoo.com, and below is my address so that you can send the donations to me and I will bring them to the Gathering. Just put Donations in the subject line so that I don't accidentally overlook your email. I just want to thank everyone in advance for their generosity to this very special cause. Thanks again!!!
With Honor,
Patrick Quinn

Patrick, What a nice message and reminder to all who Gather, and even those who don't, that sometimes it's not just about us having fun. Ariel's Auction gives our Gathering a deeper purpose and reminds us that there are those not as fortunate as we are.
We have received some auction and raffle donations already from Kay, Chris B., and others. Anyone else who has an item they think someone else might enjoy, please donate!
All auction proceeds go directly to Ariel's family, and any raffle monies go to pay Gathering expenses (example: the meeting room charge at the hotel where we will set up the raffles and auction items).
Anyone who wants to donate an item still has time to send it to Patrick, or better yet, bring it with you to the Gathering! Can't believe it's NEXT WEEK! See you all soon! |

Greetings all,
Since we are a week from the Mohican Gathering, just a reminder to bring your items for the Raffle and Ariel's Auction. The money raised from Auction is certainly for a very worthwhile cause - http://www.noeyes.com/. Please bring your items directly to the Gathering. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
With Honor,

Thanks for the reminder, Patrick. Last night I tried to gather up all my raffle and auction donations and put them in one place so I won't forget them. I've been stashing a few items here and there since the last Gathering, so I hope I remembered everything! I'm really going to hate to say goodbye to that Ghost Horse Painted Pony, that thing is beautiful. It has been in its box in a closet, but I still liked looking at it now and then. Kay was sweet to let me babysit it for the past 2 years. :-) |

Steph, I have been doing the same thing and am wondering where I am going to put everything. I should have sent you more stuff to babysit. I guess that we will stuff it all in Michael's teeny tiny trunk. He has a little Toyota Corolla Sport and there isn't a whole lot of room, especially when you have four people, luggage, auction and raffle goodies, and goodness knows what else!!! But I will make it all fit!!! Just a few more days!!!

Greetings all,
I arrived back at home near Washington DC about 9:30pm last night. I was on the road for 12 hours, but 4 of those hours were stopping at some places that I have been wanting to visit for years.
Ariel's Auction and our raffle for the 2008 Gathering was a big success. We raised $951.75 for Ariel. Ariel's mother Laurie nearly burst into tears when I turned over the funds to her. That means from the past 2 Gatherings, we have raised over $2K for Ariel. We also raised $290 from our raffle to help with expenses, but Kay can describe more of that.
I want to thank Stephanie for her coordination of this year's themed Back-To-Basics 2008 Gathering. It was one of the more enjoyable Gatherings I have been too. Even after attending 5 past Gatherings, I still learned a lot from what happened when the film was being made from the stories Soldiers #1 & #2 told.
I also want to thank Jayne and Kay for their insights from past auctions to make this auction go off without a hitch. I want to thank Tammy for collecting all of the funds for this year's auction, and everyone else you helped moved everything under the tarps after we heard lightning, of course it did not rain after all.
With Honor and Namaste,
Patrick Q

Thanks again Patrick for being the auction coordinator!!! You did an excellent job!!! Yes, everybody pitched in and helped make the auction and raffle a success!!! Everybody wanted to help out and we did very good. Of course, there were times when I thought that Nancy emptied out almost everybody else's tickets and just left her tickets in the bag, but since I had the bag with me all the time, I guess that she won all of those goodies fair and square. I hope that everybody is enjoying their goodies!!! THANKS AGAIN everyone. Y'all are the BEST!!!

Patrick, You are quite the tourist. I'm glad you got to see some sites on your trip. Of course, if we hadn't moved the tables up under the shelter, it would have rained on them, right? It's Murphy's Law!!! But better safe than sorry. You did a great job on the auction, and I'm glad Jayne, Kay, and Tammy were around to assist. Lori was grateful for our efforts, but she noted correctly that "you guys have fun with this, eh?" Glad you made it home safe and thanks for all you do to support the Gathering, the raffles, and Ariel's Auction. Steph

Yes Kay, it was fair and square! I'm usually not so lucky, and I was holding out to win PowerBall or something (though I think my chances of winning would increase if I actually 'bought' PowerBall tickets....you think?).
Anyway, my strategy was to buy tickets at different times, so I got a range of numbers. Never mind luck....this one was all ~skill~ !!!!
Now I have to work on winning PowerBall....!

As I said before, only a special anniversary would have pulled me away from the Gathering before it was OVER! I do regret missing the movie night and the raffle/auction fun on Sunday. I was so excited to hear how much you all sent home with Ariel! Great job, Patrick and helpers! It was such a wonderful experience to meet Ariel, her mom and brother! A special family, for sure! Ok...next time (2010??) I'll be there for the duration! (Don will understand )
