Okay so I'm breaking the rules and jumping the gun a little, but I just love this quote, and I'll be out of town tomorrow and won't be able to post it, and never in my life again will I be able to "legally" use it, so forgive me.....

Through life's road so dim and dirty,
I have drag'd to three and thirty.
What have these years left to me?
nothing, except thirty-three.

What are you saying girlfriend? Is tomorrow your 33rd birthday???? If I'm way off base here, I must be "dim" myself. If I'm on track, THEN HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Happy Birthday, Steph! Thought about you (and you, too Karen) Sunday. Claude and I went to Tannehill State Park. It was an ironworks headquarters during the Civil War. They have reenactments there from time to time. It was really interesting. Next time we go, though, I'll wear my tennis shoes and not my Sunday shoes! Argh! Anyway, have a Happy Day!

Diana, that visit to Tannehill was a spur of the moment thing. We had just left from my parents after dinner and a birthday celebration (my Dad will be 72 Sept. 13)and decided to stop. And, I've seen those heels at Chimney Rock, too. What are they thinking?!!

Hi Theresa! Thanks for the thought. I happen to know that Miss Stephanie is on her way to Maryland to take part in this weekend's reenactment of the battles at Antietam/Sharpsburg. As Jim is also going to be there, they are going to try to meet up. I hope they can accomplish this without one or the other of them being "arrested" as spies!!

Oh deah...say it ain't so. That sweet little ol' Southern Belle meetin' up with a Yankee!

I'm hoping she'll let me know the next time she comes to Selma. Does Jim participate in that one?

Yes, Theresa, it's true, it's true! At least that is the plan. The national reenactments are so huge that I'm not sure they will ever really make contact. Miss Stephanie does expected to be escorted by a fine southern gentleman on her excursion into Yankee land~don't know if that will help or put her into more jeopardy. Will let you know what transpires!
So far the farthest south Jim has been for reenacting is Tennessee. When is the one in Selma you mentioned? Maybe I can convince him he needs to see more of the south!! Road trip!!!

Hey Karen,

This must be a HUGE event! Yes, please let me know what happens. I'm not sure of dates on the one held in Selma but Stephanie would know. Now, you said he went as far south as Tennessee...what part? I remember Stephanie mentioning one in Chattanooga which is about a three hour drive from here. Perhaps we could do a Road Trip to that one....ROAD TRIP!!

Hi Theresa! Well, set your fears to rest about our sweet little ole Southern Belle meeting up with a Yankee~it didn't happen. I guess the weather turned very bad and people started leaving Saturday night. I don't know if Stephanie left early, but Jim and most of his company were on the road just as the rain started to hit. He said it was predicted that the area they were in would get 8 inches! He got home last evening instead of tonight when I was expecting him. I always feel badly when this happens. So many people work so hard to do any kind of reenacting and to put on quality events. I also think about our ancestors who didn't have the option of going home if they wanted to!
Jim did go to an event in the Chattanooga area a couple of years ago. I don't know if it would be the same one that Stephanie mentioned. The guys in Jim's company vote on one big "national" event a year that they make a long trip to. The rest of the time they try to attend events closer to home. Maybe you should ask Miss Stephanie more about the Chattanooga event.
Road trip sounds good! Karen

Bummer! Sounds like Ol' Hannah won that war, huh!? I can only imagine the disappointment of all those who worked so hard for this event. Maybe Stephanie will give us an update from her end of things. Glad Jim is home safe and sound.
