Just can't get enough of waterfalls!
I was very near there this morning, on Green River Road. I was driving slow and enjoying the scenery. I came around a turn and there was a deer, standing in the middle of the road. I slowed to a stop. The deer just stood there looking at me, and I just sat there looking at him. Finally the deer strolled off into the fields. It seemed like something out of the Elk Hunt. Now if we could just get this deer to show up at the next Gathering.
Ain't nothing like Mohicanlamd, folks!

We need to add a SIXTH day to the Mohican Gatherings! I must say that this Board posts some of the toughest polls I've ever seen! Last year's Gathering was my very first and I am spoiled, because we went down the Nolichucky on Friday AND we four waterfalls in DuPont State Forest the next day! Physically exhausting? Yes - but well worth it! And now I must choose just ONE?!
Hmmm, must give this one some serious thought! By the way, when does this poll "officially" close???

Ummm....just a thought....have you ever considered making one day a 'choice' between something physical like Nolichucky...and something a little more restful....say, Biltmore?
I missed out on all the river fun this year....and I would hate for it not to be on the itinerary for my next visit (she says hopefully!)
Anyway..just a thought...

As a newbie, Dupont is one of the major attractions for me. I agree with Fitz on waterfalls.... can never get enough.

I really enjoyed the river. The waterfalls are something you can do anytime you are in the area.
Hey and they have waterfalls on the river.!!!! I should know and you can even see the back side of one if you work it right... The sights are beautiful and the guides were a hoot.

2002 was to be my FIRST Mohican experience. Our plans had to change... reluctantly. ONE of the many reasons I wanted to take this journey was for the "Whitewater Rafting" excursion, the other to see the "beautiful waterfalls!" Now, never having attended I have to pick ONE! NOT FAIR! Texas boasts no such landmarks. Will you guys with any "pull" on the decision making process please see to it that I get the whole breath-taking tour!!!
Leaving my "only chance to see" visions in your capable hands,
Sandy

Sorry you missed this past event, Sandy ... it was a good one!
*sigh* One of the more difficult aspects of putting these shindigs together is the balancing act of trying to keep things somewhat fresh, for the benefit of returnees [myself included!], while at the same time visiting as many of the locations as is possible within the time-frame, so that first-timers can get their fill. So far, so good, but it's really impossible to see it all in the time allotted. Impossible! One thing folks don't often realize, until they arrive here, is just how spread out all the locations are.
To those ends, though, we did expand the next Gathering - 2003 - to a whopping 5 days [remember, Gathering One was a mere 2 days long!] ... still, it just ain't enough to see it all!
At this point, nothing is carved in the proverbial stone - no contracts or commitments - so, I'm still game to listen to anything and entertain all ideas & suggestions.
So ... all "you guys with any pull," what say you? |

Cherie has a good point: quote: Hey and they have waterfalls on the river.!!!! I should know and you can even see the back side of one if you work it right...
Maybe we could take a rafting trip over the waterfalls in the Dupont, just like Duncan, Hawkeye & the others did in LOTM! The stunt guys proved that Hooker Falls can be navigated successfully...that's one down, three to go! Seriously, it wasn't that long ago that only ONE VOTE separated the choice of Nolichucky vs. DuPont, so obviously BOTH are quite popular...It would be great if there were some way we could do BOTH in 2003 but whatever is decided, I'll be there, for sure!

I don't want to have to choose between the two. I want both! I'm ready to spend a full week with ya'll. But..... If I do have to pick, I'll say rafting. Only because I've only done it once. I've visiting the waterfalls more...

Rich,
I can certainly see your point about keeping things fresh for the returnees. How about splitting the group in two. Returnees and others interested go to Nolichucky. The newbies (like myself) can do Dupont. Do you think there is enough interest to make both trips happen? Could they be scheduled during the same time frame. I am not trying to suggest something that might be a logistics headache for you. To that end I would be happy to help in anyway you need. |

Well, the adventuress in me voted "whitewater" over "falling water". Paddle or walk, paddle or walk... Hmmmmmm.
Whatever floats your bubble, I'll be happy either way!

Stan and I prefer Dupont. Makes for an easier day; beautiful waterfalls are not to be missed; not as far to drive to. Nolichucky was quite an experience but not one that needs to be repeated on an annual basis. How about 2003 Dupont, 2004 for Nolichucky?

Hi ya kids, hi ya!!!!!
O.K. I voted. I want to hike to 4 places. WW rafting is too dangerous for me. However, if you all choose otherwise, no worries......will just stay in and catch some extra zzzz's! Better yet, will always try and go SHOPPING, yipp-ee! Hubby may go with ya'll! LOL
It's such a busy time of year, although we've been busy the past 4 months, but I'll be be back here as often as possible to post and hopefully catch up on reading posts! tee-hee
Love ya all, Enchilada```````````hey, got any MEXICAN food????????? |

Aw come on!! WW was awesome. Last year was the first time I had ever done that. I'm a none swimmer and never felt in danger at all. The guides were super! But...I do love those waterfalls and I think (been so long I can't remember) I voted to do Dupont. Whatever finally comes to pass, I'm there with a smile on my face. It's all about the people and whichever venue we do, it will be splendid!
