I don’t know if anyone has put you wise yet. Rich has a very… imaginative, concept of ‘distance’! And he tends to use euphemisms for words like, oh… death march. HIS word is ‘hike’. Another favourite of his is ‘seven miles’ which in his vocabulary, translates to ‘two’. And… he doesn’t restrict his colourful imagination to just distance. Uh uh! Our Rich can 'out imagine' ANYONE in MANY concepts!!!

For example, Rich’s description of the necessary ‘state of health’ needed to get to the ‘Top of the World’ was something like, “anyone can do it, if they have a pair of legs’. Yeah, RIGHT! And leg muscles the like of which you would ONLY find on a varsity quarterback, a respirator, a Defibrillator, an Emergency back-up unit and the ability to slip into a coma while still being able to talk – ‘only a hundred more (Rich’s concept remember!) feet…only a hundred more feet’.

Well, getting there WAS NO PICNIC, I grant ye!! And it was NOTHING LIKE the climb described by the Sachem! (At one point, I wasn’t even SURE if I was on the same ‘hike’ as him!) On the other hand, I don’t think it was as bad as Ros made out!! I COULD BE WRONG!! It’s a personal thing…

Uh… I think Ros made her point VERY CLEARLY…

SERIOUSLY, Ros was at that moment, performing a very beautiful ceremony, where she offered tobacco up to the Spririts… I wouldn’t have missed THAT for the world!

Thanks for the warning Kate. I am taking notes so that I know what to expect when I get there. (Note to self) "Do not believe Rich about anything to do with distance."

Great Picture Kate! (may aren't we the busy bee this morning!) Look at that gorge in the background!

And (sorry folks, I LOVE to start sentences with AND) here's a tidbit about that tobacco! Ros had forgotten her tobacco in the car, and only a *Rich* or someone like him would even attempt to GO BACK to the car. I heard her mention this, at the time I smoked, and offered her one of my cigarettes (even though it was one of those tiny things) to substitute as she said ANY tobacco would do. Within two weeks after that ceremony I had NO DESIRE to ever pick up another cigarette - NONE - and to this day have not smoked!!! Granted, I wasn't a heavy smoker anyway, but talk about added rewards! And that wasn't even a goal of the blessing she did.

Was this the time that Ros was driving a rental car down from Table Rock and banged her oil pan on a rock? Of course she said a red light came on, and OF COURSE we noticed a thin black line on the dirt road as we descended the mountain (we weren't in the car with her). By the time we got the end of the road, we saw Ros's car pulled to the side - "IT just stopped!" she said. We took her to the closest phone (this was before there were gads of cell towers in the mountains) to call the rental place. We all said "Ros what ever you do, don't tell them the red light came on". Can you guess the first thing Ros said? Yep,..." A red light did come on before it died". Boy, did she have a time after that getting a new car brought to her, BUT they did! Poor Ros!!!! Another Jewel of a gal! Doesn't have a great depth of car knowledge, but one of those people you treasure knowing! She'll probably have my head for telling that one!

Yes, I do believe it WAS the same Gathering that she had the 'little car problem'.

Ros is a REAL DARLING!! She's always smiling and laughing and you just can't help being happy around her.

Is this pic just wonderful?? Well... I mean Ros!! (The picture ITSELF was crap! I almost cut her head off!)

To be honest, I'm having one of those days when I JUST CAN'T BE BOTHERED doing anything I SHOULD! So... I made an executive decision to just do what I WANTED to do. At that point in time, it was to throw in some Gathering pictures, just to 'get us in the mood'... (As if we need THAT!).

Kate,
That's a great picture of Ros!!! The mountain scene is beautiful too!!! Go ahead and send all of the pics that you can. You don't really need to be doing anything else.
Unfortunately, I do though. I better get to cleaning out our side shop. I want it to look all spic and span when my husband gets back from Las Vegas, so I will catch up on all of the pictures later.

Things happen for a reason... Roz's "car problem" provided an excellent opportunity for Debbie and me to get to know her better as we volunteered to drive her around a bit until she got her replacement rental car.

Magua's Moll is a great gal! I am honored to have had her acquaintance. Looking forward to seeing her again this Gathering.
As far a when is a hike not a hike? Maybe when Rich states that it's too long/hard to attempt - then perhaps. IF he says it's only two miles...well, Houston, we got a problem.
AND if he says it's an easy hike???...ha, ha, ha, HA! The first Gathering they all spent hours just trying to FIND the path to the top of the world! And this from the author of that booklet thingy...what is it called again: How to find the locations from the Movie?? Lets just say the author is directionally challenged.

Jo

Who waited hours and hours (OH, just a real quick hike....) for these guys at the Top of the World car park at that first Gathering batting the bugs away - had that sprained ankle moon boot with no traction so couldn't hike up the trail very far. What a day.

Hi Jo!
That's right, you did have that sprained ankle! You were such the trouper that entire trip! Personally, I've always enjoyed that "hike", but I do think the first time (G1) was a killer - with the bugs and especially with that wonderful "bathroom". PHEW!
