A great childhood friend of my father,John Eklond,is a screen and play writer whose work has been praised in newspapers. His plays have been "Dirt Little Coward" a play on Jesse James's death,Elvis in heaven, and many others.Besides the previous written John or Jay as I call him has taken it upon himself to produce and direct "The Lion of the West" a performance about a rugged frontiersman and bear hunter which was based on the fictious adventures of politician David Crockett.Jay assigned to me the task to help him research the play and will probably be performing in Goodletts,Tennessee around the same time as the new Alamo film.I encourage everyone to see it as i have created a messageboard on the performance.

Rich, the reason I post this thread here is because I am trying to get traffic and word out as I know the Alamo section of your wonderful forum isn't visited but only by a few people.I'd appreciate it if you left it up here for everyone to see because this is an important project to Jay and myself.
Thanks and post your thoughts or questions at the Lion of the West messageboard at the link given above.

Wade,
This isn't entirely inappropriate for this section of the Board. The main theme of "Lion of the West" (if memory serves) is the conflict between the homespun, rustic American against the "sophisticated" European types. This is, of course, part of the Cooper stories also, and was a frequent theme in early American stage productions. In fact, "The Contrast", the first American written play performed in the early U.S. dealt with just this theme.
Also, there's even more of an F&I War/"Lion" connection. In Gary Foreman's History Channel documentary "Boone and Crockett: The Hunter Heroes", James Hackett/Nimrod Wildfire was played by Bill Sheets, who has played Crockett in living history programs in Alamo plaza, but who is also a veteran F&I War reenactor. Bill is a member of Rogers' Own company of Rogers' Rangers, and has also been part of other F&I War units.
Good luck with a wonderful sounding project. I wish they would take the production "on the road" so more of us could experience this piece of Americana. Maybe it could be commercially videotaped - there might be a market, not just among history buffs, but also for schools.
