I was thinking the same thing (scary--to be thinking like Doc Mary!).

But maybe that why "the good die young"....it's no fun anymore!?!?

And Ben, as I recall, lived to quite a ripe old age, and did his vices die before he?

If a vice is the opposite of a virtue, Ben conquered at least one vice. Ben came up with a list of thirteen virtues, apparently at an early age since these virtues are the reason behind the maxims published in "Poor Richard's Almanack". The first of the list was Temperance defined as "Eat not to dullness, Drink not to elevation". After the Halloween luncheon Friday with ten times my normal intake, I can attest to the dullness brought on by intemperate eating. (The chili was spectacular.) Ben's vegetarian experiments and temperate eating habits definately lengthened his life. No gout for Ben!

I thought Franklin did suffer from gout, and worse yet, talked with it.

Your're right, Scott. Gout AND gallstones! Sources seem to indicate this was after serving in France as ambasador. Coincidence?
