May we NEVER forget this day. Here's another quote that I like:

Fight and you may die. Run and you'll live, at least a while. And, dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance -- just one chance -- to come back here and tell our enemies, that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!
--William Wallace (Mel Gibson) Braveheart

I simply cannot believe that it has been two years now.

The videos, the images, the interviews, the memories, and the words... and again, the tears flow.

May the tears never, ever stop flowing.
And may we always remember.

Oddly enough, today (at least in Pittsburgh) is the exact kind of
day it was two years ago -- a perfect early fall day, clear as a
bell -- VERY unusual for this area. Two years ago I was sitting in
a traffic jam on the way to work, and was listening to NPR when the
first plane hit. I remember thinking some small non-commercial plane
probably got lost and hoped not too many office workers had been hurt,
though of course a huge building like that -- how much damage could
there be? By the time I got into work a few minutes later, people
were running around in a daze, and they had just set up a tv outside
my work station. One of my co-workers was beginning to tell me that
it was a huge commercial jet that had been involved, and we saw the
second plane hit...and the whole world changed, just like that.

Today is a day I'll pray for wisdom and peace...both in short supply
these days it seems.

I thought that after two years I'd be able to remember that beautiful sunny day without getting a lump in my throat, I was wrong. Watching the footage of the airliner's plowing through the towers again still makes me gasp. I had to take a walk and just think about how fortunate we really are. I'm so frustrated with people who take our country and our privileged lifestyles for granted. We live in the greatest country on this Earth. We have the highest standard of living among nations as richly diverse as our own. Sure some European countries might have higher wages and better health care but they're not the melting pot, the land of opportunity that we are. We should encourage our kids to embrace and fully understand our history, study the struggles and bloodshed that allows each of us to wake up every day and make whatever we will of our lives. There's no other place in the world I'd rather call my home. Thank you to our forefathers, our soldiers, our veterans, and especially those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our ideals.
