You know, I was staring at her face on the "This Day in History" applet this morning & thinking, "I wonder why she did it?" That quote answers that.

I remember hearing of her death on the radio. I was 10 years old, yet it made an impact. Must've been my parents' reaction, though I can't remember what that was. I do remember hearing of the news on their nightstand radio ...

I was just thinking about that as well. I was 11 and we were all
in our backyard having a barbecue. We heard it on the little
transistor radio that we had set up on the picnic table. I
never really liked her until I saw The Misfits a few years
after her death. Not a great movie by any means, but the
feeling she gave of loss and vulnerability was heartbreaking.
What a sad sad waste of a great talent.
