It's gone a little bit quiet recently, so I thought I'd talk about lust to get everyone stirred up!:) My favourite "looks of lust" in LOTM were:

In the burial ground scene, Hawkeye checks out Cora's body as she's lying with her back to him.

After Hawkeye and the others arrive at the fort, and they're standing in Colonal Munro's cabin, Hawkeye gives Cora this LASCIVIOUS look, as if he's imagining her without her dress on! I really noticed this the first time I saw LOTM.

After Hawkeye says "I'm looking at you miss", he gives her Cora's figure a VERY leisurely once over.:)

Hawkeye and Cora looking at each other just before they go of for "The Kiss". The desire on Cora's face as she looks at Hawkeye in "The Kiss".

What are other looks of lust that you remember?

[Also, I am mesmerized every time by the looks exchanged between these two at the climax scene on the cliffs. When Uncas is first hurt by Magua, (slashed in the stomach), he looks over at Alice with pain and disbelief at what had just happened to him. He stares at her intensely for that moment, laying his heart and life on the line for her. She looks back onto his face, amazed by his actions for her, hoping against all hope, and hurting for his pain too. The soulful looks exchanged between Uncas and Alice in that scene convey simply and purely very intricate emotions and feelings.

This is my fave scene...the look exchanged between Alice and Uncas is so stirring. It made me want to cry! And although I knew that he was going to die casue I had seen the movie before, I couldnt help praying that I was wrong and that there would indeed be a happy ending. But, it was not meant to be!

I agree with the above post..the looks uncas and alice share are more love than lust.
chasis_22 Posted - May 20 2004 : 5:06:41 PM
Ok my favorite look of lust is more of a look of love. I loved the look Uncas gave Alice when he got the knife in the stomach. But on the lustful side defintely the waterfall scene with Uncas and Alice!
Lurking Huron3087 Posted - May 14 2004 : 10:22:09 AM
Can't remember which topic it was..but you know about the version which only a couple of people saw..the one with more lingering scenes of alice and uncas at the fort..i think that happens at the part where colonel munro thanks Hawkeye, Uncas and Ching and you can see Alice behind kinda smiling shyly. when colonel says he is indebted to them..you can still see Alice looking at something..
i figured it was Uncas..haha....

His lips touches her forehead? Really? Gotta watch it again real real close and slow..'cos I just thought he shushes her... he's just an epitome of the strong and silent type who when loves..loves deeply.
Ok..i'm gonna watch that scene again! : )
Vee Posted - May 11 2004 : 2:43:08 PM
He comforts her tenderly... He is amazingly calm, and yet can be impulsive at other times.

Doesn't it just seem like his lips unconsciously touch her forehead in that scene? Once when he is first looking down in her face to see if she is alright, and a second time right as he strokes her hair back? Oh, you can tell I've watched that scene too close!

Actually..if you listen really carefully..after he pushes back her hair..he gently shushes her..you know..like "shhh.." because she was breathing so hard and loud in her panic..and I thought that was so sweet..awwww.. to have a man like Uncas..Sigh.

A touching moment!

ok..back to looks...
I forgot about one ..
when Uncas pulls Alice back from the falls..the way he looks down at her..then sorta pushes her hair back....woohoo...that never fails to get me.. I just love that whole part.
Lurking Huron3087 Posted - May 10 2004 : 2:43:34 PM
You know, Vee.. I realise I agree with your comments almost every time!..Loved what u said above.
Just a little addition..
The riverwalk scene..when Uncas was gazing at Alice..I thought he looked almost reluctant..as if he didn't want to be attracted to her..but couldn't help it..and he kinda frowned at the same time as if he was trying to figure her out.
As for the scene at the cliffs..
I loved the play of expressions across Alice's face before she jumped
Disgust with Magua as she made her way to the edge of the cliff..then her eyes are filled with tears..heartbroken at the death of Uncas..then she numbly looks down at the body..i think by the time she looked up..she had made up her mind to join him in death..i think before she looked at his body..she was still debating whether to jump..i think at that point..she lost all her will to live totally.
Man.. i'm posting this inthe whole forum am I? tHIS forum is suppose to be on looks of lust.. whoops!

My personal thought is that Uncas admired her, found her attractive, or maybe just had a longing to find someone like her to settle down with. And the latter would explain why he was so attracted to Alice.

Ciao. WW

My personal thought is exactly the same as yours WW.
Uncas longed for a woman with Alexandra's qualities and this led to his easily falling in love with Alice. Alice, herself much younger than Alexandra, was similar in many ways to this woman of the frontier... kind, gentle, fair, and quiet. This being the kind of woman Uncas had wanted for himself, prevented him from finding a "Delaware-speaking woman" to marry as he was intended. He yearned for something different.

Love the looks Uncas gives Alice at the river walk scene. They are so deep and filled with melancholy at the same time. In that very moment it becomes clear to the young man that he has found what he has been aching for all this time. He is deeply attracted and drawn to Alice, but at the same time it is as if he knows she is out of his league. He can almost sense that he will be somehow hurt by this desire for her. His better judgement is telling him that it isn't meant to be for them, yet he cannot look back.

Also, I am mesmerized every time by the looks exchanged between these two at the climax scene on the cliffs. When Uncas is first hurt by Magua, (slashed in the stomach), he looks over at Alice with pain and disbelief at what had just happened to him. The soulful looks exchanged between Uncas and Alice in that scene convey simply and purely very intricate emotions and feelings.

This is why I love this movie... it is subtle yet open for anyone to interpret; it does not dictate.

I agree with Ellie. The look that really hits me is the one Uncas bestowed upon Alice during the riverwalk scene. It's intense and speaks vloumes.I wouldn't mind been Jodhi May at that point..even if it's only acting!
But I won't really call it a look of lust though..more of Uncas being mesmerized by her.

'In the burial ground scene, Hawkeye checks out Cora's body as she's lying with her back to him.'

I never noticed he was checking her out, I thought he was just glancing at her becuase she had proved not to be what he thought and he was confused. The sly old dog. I will have to watch that scene again now.

The look that gets me is when Uncas gazes at Alice as she climbs the falls, she is completely unaware of his attraction to her at that point.

I don't need any others! This one does it for me! That smile he gives her... pant, pant, pant...

Hi, All,

I always wondered what, exactly, was going on between Uncas and Alexandra Cameron...the way she was looking at him made me think there might have been a missing scene on a cutting-room floor somewhere. I was disappointed when the Director's Cut of LOTM didn't shed any light on this. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Pen, you are not the only one to have picked up on that one! I can't remember which topic it's under right now, but there has been some discussion on this subject. I don't think there was anything else in the script regarding this... was there guys?

I'm not certain if we ever really came up with an answer about exactly what was going on between Uncas and Alexandra, but there was something there. Whether it was an out and out attraction between the two of them, or simply a good friendship...

My personal thought is that Uncas admired her, found her attractive, or maybe just had a longing to find someone like her to settle down with. And the latter would explain why he was so attracted to Alice.

"looks of lust"

***HEY***!

Let us not forget the infamous Uncas and Alice looks/scenes!
Where would us Uncas fans be without them! Such as the wonderful infirmary scene that I still remember the first time I saw LOTM on the big screne - that little slip of breech clout while sitting on the infirmary table..:-)

Stop right there! That's my favorite. If, as discussed in A Breed Apart And Make No Sense, Chingachgook was, in fact, referring to "women," well, then ...

I can just hear Hawkeye, as his eyes caress Cora before him, thinking, "Well, Pops, I beg to differ on that one!"

Look of Lust you say....watch me whenever I watch the movie! LOL!
All of the above are excellent ones, Sidony.
