If it was re-made not as Manns but just another version, perhaps closer to the book who would you be happy with in the roles?
I only had one thought so far but I think Sean Wei Mah would make a fantastic Uncas.

I find it hard to disagree with any of the suggestions made here for a remake of LOTM...but who would we get to play the Sachem? Why, Wes Studi, of course!   |

OK...back to the topic.....
"If ROTM was le-made..."
(PS--Back in the early '80's we had an Exchange Student Japanese daughter, Hiromi.... "Lomi", she went by.... who has since given us a beautiful granddaughter, Reiku. I'd love to go see them someday, but I don't think I'll ever be able to....)
NOW...back to the Topic:
I think it's WAY too soon to remake it. We need a whole new generation of GOOD actors/actresses.....not the current Pop Tart crowd of Hollywood bozos. We need folks with talent who are believable! After all, how long was it from the original to 'our' LOTM??? Answer: It was 72 years from the original in 1920 (Want a treat? Watch THIS ONE!!) to 'ours'(1992)! There was also one in 1936, and....we cannot forget all the serials,TV shows, etc., along the way.
I vote to wait awhile for a crop of as-yet-unborn talent....maybe by then there will be some!

Yes, Dad was quite taken with Japan and its people, the beauty of their houses, their gardens, their artwork, etc. As you can imagine, it was all very different in Japan in the early 1950s. Most of the old ways were still in tact.
Dad lives in our Pacific Northwest, in Portland Oregon. There were a lot of Japanese immigrants who made their way there in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and there are many beautiful Japanese-influenced gardens in that part of the U.S. In fact, Portland's Sister City is Sapporo!

Off topic, but just wanted to pass on humble apologies to Wilderness Woman if I appeared to come across as flippant in answering your question This was certainly not my intention. Sounds like your father had a similar aesthetic appreciation for Japan as I do (an appreciation that is proving to be very expensive as the years roll on....)
Back on topic, perhaps not a re-casting for Hawkeye, but would dearly have loved to use a hair straightner on his locks..... |

I actually didn't mean that to be funny. It was a serious question, and one that made sense to me given your board name and what you had just posted.
My father was stationed in Japan for a year during the Korean War. While there, he purchased and sent home some very lovely things, from Kokeshi (also called Sendai) dolls to silk kimonos to cloisone vases to carved ivory figures to Sake sets to beautifully detailed ceramic figurines. He, too, fell in love with Japan.
But, this is off topic for this thread... |

 No, no NO, Wilderness Woman!! Not even CLOSE to being Japanese in ethnicity (I'm a 4th/5th generation Australian of Scottish/English/German descent), but very much in love with the country and its people, and have been for over 15 years. To the point where many of my Japanese friends tell me I'm more Japanese than them! I'm currently living in Tokyo, where I've been working for almost four years. |

I'm with you Kirachi, Sean Wei Mah is HOT!! But my heart will ALWAYS have a place for Eric circa 1992 as Uncas (in fact, he is #4 on my personal list of most beautiful appearances by a man ever). |

Caitlin, I've been too busy with teaching to get on here lately and came back to find this rather interesting posting about an LOTM remake. I'm reading along taking in everyone's thoughts/opinions and then I read your comment and laughed out loud. That is so funny.
In all seriousness, though, I doubt if Eric is a person to try to "remake" past achievements. I don't know, but I would bet that LOTM is over and done with for him. So, we'll have to get someone else for Chingachgook, I guess. |

 RedFraggle great casting....i agree with you...so that leaves the parts of Uncas and Alice...Eric has to come back for the remake /also Alice.....Natalie Dormer  great choice

Let's see about other casting....
I like Charlie Cox for Duncan. He was so cute in Stardust and he plays the bumbling romantic hero well. After all, that's what he would have to be if we were making a version of LOTM that was true to the book. Duncan would pretty much be our main character. Weird to think of, eh?

As for Hawkeye, what about Viggo Mortenson? Cooper's Hawkeye is supposed to be tall, unhandsome, and with stringy muscles. Not that Viggo is unhandsome, but I think that he could make a passable Hawkeye with a nice, weathered look like he had in Hidalgo (though maybe not as cowboyish). Ahhhh, Viggo.

-Weldone-definately-Natalie Dormer for Alice,not sure about Sean Wei Mah-maybe have to disagree there ladies....can not replace Uncas...he has such a distinguish look remember....the actor Sean Wei Mah looks loverly though,but would have maybe bring back Eric for this final roll as Uncas  ~that would be Crazy i know...but have to say-and mentioned before....make up can do wonders....and a strict plan to work out and be 20 years younger...it can happen....i know the actor Jodhi May *Alice...dose look so young in the film..and making a remake...maybe not so good..but maybe *The last of the Mohicans-20 years on....but thinking of a catchy title to catch people attention also...with a...continued story ofthere lives and add with on the bonus feature on the dvd on release..aswell..sounds good huh!
But a remake ...i do not beleive in remakes....look at the remake on ...Pride And prejudice.....not very atal i felt...no way near as amazing as the original. |

I'm soon to be 33 (yikes!) and have been mistaken for 23-25 depending on whose looking. No one expects to hear 30-something. Not even the people carding at clubs.
The last time I went they called the police, though I was trying to pass off a fake ID because of my date of birth!
