Of these prominent bloopers that made their way to film in The Last of the Mohicans, which do you find most "shocking" in its failure to be detected before the final release?

I've noticed another one!!!! When Hawkeye shoot's that deer, you obviously see a guy wearing a red cap, releasing that deer. But you have to play it very slow. Wahah...

love,

Has anyone noticed during the surrender/marching out scene at the fort, Munro rides past Montcalm, says 'Monsieur, the fort is yours' and then in another shot after that it appears that Munro is riding towards the mouted Montcalm and his staff? After that, as the column enters 'Massacre Valley', Munro is at the rear of the column and rides down the flank and towards Beams, Cora, Alice and the colours.
I haven't worded this very well but watch it and keep your eye on Munro.

Now you all have done it!! I never noticed any bloopers. How on earth did I miss so many mistakes? Probably I was focusing too much on the gorgeous men. These bloopers definitely warrant more viewings beginning today. All I know is that you guys have given me more reasons to watch the movie over and over again, so thanks all.

And so now I have to go and watch the movie for the umpteenth and twenitieth time, much to hubby's despair. I've missed you guys.

Hey there, Gals – and Guy!

HI THERE BACK ATCHA, Theresa! How’re things, girl? Hello there, Kaylynn – so glad I was able to make ye smile, m’ dear!! SORRY ABOUT THE HICCUPS!! Still – they say ‘laughing is good for what ails ye’ so hopefully, yer having a great day!

Heck, Duncan is such a pompous little git… errr… little soldier, ye have to laugh at his thinking he can win the lady’s heart by changing his canoes the way the lady changes her… uhhh… hairstyle!! To be honest, I LOVE Duncan! He’s… well… he’s… so tragic a figure, you can’t help feeling sorry for him. And as is human nature, I tend to do what we all do to such tragic characters – have some fun at his expense! Though in ‘real life’, I’m MUCH kinder - HONEST! Ain’t that so, R.??

No… I’d never heard anyone mention ‘the great canoe switcheroo’ before, and so I thought I’d register it as a bona fide Great Mohican ‘blooper’ along with all the other ‘classics’.

Oh yeah, Theresa! It DEFINITELY warrants another look at the film!! HECK!! It took me about 70 hours of watching to check, re-check and DOUBLE check, JUST TO MAKE SURE that I was seein’ what I was seein’! And THEN I had to do it all AGAIN to make ABSOLUTELY SURE that I got the details o’ the great switcheroo right, so anyone else would know what to look for! Well… I go by the maxim – you can’t be overly careful! If you are gonna do a job, you have to do it RIGHT and you have to research it well, even supposin’ it takes you hours and hours of admirin’ Unc… uh… admiring canoes and their incorporated aboriginal designs!!

Now… I’m gonna do ye a favour! I’m gonna go do some more research… save ye’s all having to do it yerselves! OH HECK – there’s just SOME THINGS ye have to do fer yerselves! Go on - Enjoy!!

Woohooo!! Hello Kate!

You know, I've never noticed Duncan's canoe swapping. 'Tis another reason to watch the movie again (thank you )

So good to hear your voice here on the Board again. You have been sorely missed. Now, I'm off to pop the tape in the ol' vcr.

Yes, she's got a knack with words, she does!

Kate,
I don't think that I have ever read an email that has made me laugh more than yours!!! I loved it!!! I was laughing so hard that I developed hiccups!!!

Y'know, if there is ONE THING GUARANTEED to make me antsy, it's someone else FIDGETIN' and movin' around like they don't know where they REALLY want to be (you know, like in a movie theatre, when some folks come in, sit down and then hop from seat to seat, trying to find the best view – and inevitably end up sitting RIGHT SMACK DAB IN FRONT OF YE)!!

Fer instance, one blooper that I mentioned to Rich awhile back, which he may have mentioned, but... maybe didn't:

You know how you can feel that ‘something ain’t right, you just can’t put your finger on it’? Well… I always felt that way about the scene on the lake. And then one day, it just came to me what was wrong. Anyone notice that after the massacre, as Duncan paddles like fury over Lake James, he has this overwhelming need to move from one canoe to the other?? Talk about ants in his pants!!

As Hawkeye and party push off from the lakeside, he and his paddling crew start off in their canoe which is decorated with a motif of a red sun, on a blue background, surrounded by a red circle. We don’t see it but Duncan also goes paddling off. As he stands up and delivers his immortal line ‘When you fall into British hands again, I’ll have you hanged!’, you can see quite clearly his canoe is exactly the same (only his is decorated with a motif of a blue sun, red background and surrounded with a black circle), and there’s NO reason he should be ashamed to be seen in it!! HOWSEVER, I can only assume he feels that a red sun and blue background makes your canoe go faster, ‘cause when we see him next, he’s paddling right up there with Hawkeye’s canoe (so WHY does he need Uncas to get that beautiful hair wet and help him paddle????) he’s traded his ole ‘blue sun, red background’ canoe for a ‘red sun/blue background’ one like Hawkeye’s! Well, okay… fair enough. There’s NO DISPUTIN’ – Hawkeye is ‘cool’, he’s ‘the man’ and quite frankly, HE GOT THE GIRL! So perhaps changing his ‘blue sun/red background’ canoe for one like Hawk’s might be no bad thing. On the other hand, for some folks, NOTHING can make a difference! However, I digress!

Well… they’re ‘headin’ for the river’ in identical canoes and real sudden-like, they turn left into the river mouth. Guess what?? They’re paddlin’ along that river like all the fureys o’ hell are after them, when all of a sudden, Duncan’s decidin’, ‘I’m NOT going over that waterfall in a canoe with a red sun and blue background!! NOPE, I’m NOT GONNA DO IT!! And SUN (if you’ll pardon the pun!) of a gun!! If he don’t hop out o’ THAT canoe – into a canoe with a BLUE sun/red background – and go right off the edge o’ the falls in IT!! HOWSEVER, apparently these canoes are only good for pushing OFF o’ waterfalls!! ‘Cause when he LANDS at the bottom, he’s in the ‘red sun/blue background’ canoe again!!! And all the while I’m thinkin’ “WHEN IS THAT GUY GONNA MAKE UP HIS MIND WHICH CANOE HAS THE COMFIEST SEAT?????”

Well… Duncan obviously doesn’t care WHAT I think of this game of musical canoes, ‘cause he feels the need to annoy me JUST ONE MORE TIME!! Though he gets OUT OF ‘red sun/blue background’ canoe, guess which one he and Uncas push off to go over the next waterfall??? You betcha!! The ‘blue sun/red background’ canoe…

And he wonders why he doesn’t get the girl???? Well, you may not see it my way but… I can’t help asking myself… if that man can’t commit to a darned CANOE, how THE HECK can I expect him to ‘commit’ to a woman????? Ye see where I’m goin’ with this??

My gut tells me it’s a blooper! But my imagination says ‘Blooper’ my eye! I betcha this is Duncan’s way of drawing attention to himself, hoping that Cora will be impressed with his ability to jump in and out of a canoe and still keep up with Hawkeye et al. Well… it doesn’t work for ME! It just annoys the hell out of me!!

In the same vein,(off topic for a moment), one thing that bugs me to no end was the use of modern warships in the recent "Pearl Harbor" movie. It just ruined the whole film for me because it was so blatent.
walterb Posted - February 16 2004 : 1:18:52 PM
I watched the HBO series Band Of Brothers last night. (great show, and a must rent by the way).

Anyway, I noticed as the planes were taking off of from england to drop the unit into Normandy on D-day, there were about 6 Jet-trails in the sky. I guess its hard to do a sky shot in a period piece without sheing jet-trails, when jets didn't exist.

Oneida Posted - February 11 2004 : 4:45:01 PM
I guess I'm going to have to view this film for the 50th time(I never tire of seeing this film)! Many of these bloopers I have not seen. 'Ol blue cap is a classic.

There was something not too long ago about this. They had to flip the shot for some reason I can't recall.

Marg,
I'm just the opposite. You have to point out every little thing to me!!! I didn't even know about the ball cap until everybody said something about it. I guess that I need to watch the movie again. I haven't seen it in a couple of years. I will get my husband to watch it with me and see if he notices any of the bloopers.

I watched LOTM yesterday twice. And the fake view is before they let down their canoes of the waterfal and go under it. Very fake.

Of course I know Eric Schweig did not fall of the cliff.. I'm not a dummy! But it's sooooo fake!

And another thing... When Uncas watches Alice (at the beginning when the boys decided to be the guide to Fort Henry and have to climb up cliffs next to the waterfall) He wears his earring in his right ear... and the rest of the movie he wears it in his left ear... I'm sorry, I notice everything... maybe Hawkeye is a better name for me...? whaha.

I've noticed that from the very first time I saw it...I thought it was VERY noticeably CGI. I can even pick out when they're in front of a green screen in LOTR most of the time too. They've come a long way, but I guess you have to know what to look for. hehe
Kaylynn44 Posted - January 29 2004 : 11:16:18 AM
Hey Marg, you have a really good eye. There is no way that I would have been able to tell that the waterfall was fake.

Well, I'll be switched! I didn't know that, either!

Wow, I had no idea those falls were computer generated. I'll have to go back and look...it certainly wasn't obvious.
richfed Posted - January 29 2004 : 06:07:08 AM
You do know that's a "dummy" fluidly falling over those rocks?

Speaking of dummies ... though I'm not a complete idiot [close, at times], I did not notice those falls were fake. Not till I discovered the truth, while seeking out those locations, could I recognize them as computer generated effects.

To this day, I get asked "where are those falls?" - so, apparently, I'm not alone. Wouldn't consider these bloopers!
Marg222 Posted - January 28 2004 : 08:24:24 AM
It's not really a blooper but every time I watch the movie (still can't get enough of it)I'm amazed by the way Uncas body glides down the cliffs... and what do you think of that very fake view of the waterfall (before they go down on it). But I still like the movie very much. Tomorrow I have a day off and I'm going to watch it over and over again!

Jet Airliner Contrails.

I think I found another couple of bloopers. (I’m really have fun with this.)

In the last fight scene between Chingachgook and Magua. (~ 1hr 47min 57s)

Right after Chingachgook delivers the fatal blow with his warclub, look over his shoulder in the upper left side of the screen (Jet Contrail), then right before Magua hits the ground, dead, look in the upper center of the screen (Jet Contrail)

I have to admit I was looking for Contrails during each outdoor/wide angle scene and these are the only ones I found.

Thanks.
walterb Posted - December 28 2003 : 8:20:58 PM
One more mild blooper.

This one is barely worth mentioning but it is kind of funny. During the Elk Hunt, right when Hawkeye is getting ready to fire his musket and kill the elk/deer (I can’t tell what it is, since half of the time it looks like a deer to me, and when its killed it looks like an elk)..

Anyway, Watch where Hawkeye is aiming his rifle, and watch where Uncas is looking. Either they are looking at two different Elk, or the director just said look over there and pretend you are tracking something. Uncas is looking about 45 degrees off of where hawkeye is aiming.

Like I said, it’s a very minor point, but its still fun to pick these bloopers out.

I did find the Spray Can/Fire Extinguisher next to the stainless steel bowl on the side of the road during the fort surrender. Its black with a hose and nozzle, and writing on the side. It looks like something you would put insecticide or herbicide in to spray for weeds.. I wonder if its some sort of black dye to make the tree stumps look burnt by the firefight/battle during the days preceding the fort surrender.
walterb Posted - December 28 2003 : 8:08:32 PM
Hi,

I was “tracking” this out of dress experience too on my computer, but IMHO unfortunately I think its just a depression of her breast from the tight dress she is wearing and its casting a shadow. If you follow it when she turns into the sun, it disappears. I had an idea that someone had mistaken this for more than what it is.

However, it wouldn’t be the first booby-blooper that has gotten past Mr. Mann’s Q.C. department. On an episode of Miami Vice, (I forget the plot). At the very beginning of the show, a woman was in another room and the camera was focused on her from a distance as some guy was putting his clothes on. She was putting her dress on with a bare back, and she was facing a mirror, well guess what you could see in the mirror...

Anyway,

My big blooper mystery is what is the item on the road after the Sliver buses blooper?

It looks like some sort of vehicle because I can see 2 tires facing me, so I assume there two more tires/wheels on the other side. It has what looks like a blue and white umbrella on top, and something red on the front.

Is it a Golf Cart, or ATV, or Hot Dog Vendor cart, or someone sunning themselves at the beach. Or something I hadn’t thought of?

Thanks.
