I was wondering if someone decided to remake this movie who would you choose to play the central characters (you can reply to one or all of the characters):

Hawkeye
Cora
Uncas
Alice
Chingachgook
Magua

Or in your opinion is there any other actor who could have played either one of the above roles better?

Nope! She means James Darren, the original Moondoggie in the original Gidget. Staring, of course, Sandra Dee. I was thinking more along the lines of Troy Donahue for Uncas. Maybe Bob Denver as Magua?

~ laughing ~ A blonde Uncas? Interesting!

Now James Darren? Yum!

I was thinking more along the lines of Maynard G. Krebs, not Gilligan. Although the "Captain" would make a good Monro and the "millionaire" could be Webb. Then Ed Ames as Ching. And why not Dwayne Hickman as Duncan? The list goes on!

And by the way, Fitz, I almost fell out of my chair when I read Bob Denver for Magua! Trying to picture Gilligan as a black-hearted villain. . . .
Irishgirl Posted - February 01 2007 : 9:01:13 PM
Sorry Red I thought you meant Bobby Darrin. Even though before my time I had heard of him and seen some of his movies and he was married to Sandra Dee. Not familiar with this James Darren guy at all or Gidget. Ah, too young for some things still.

And of course it would have to be a musical. Maybe with James Darren as Uncas. Just think of the possibilities. . . .

She acts sorta teenage, just in-between age
Looks about four foot three
Although she's just small fry, just about so-high
*Alice* is the one for me!

Surfboards for canoes it is, Fitz!
Fitzhugh Williams Posted - February 01 2007 : 12:30:09 PM
Of course! On the shores of Lake George. They have waves, don't they? Anyway, they have water. Could use surf boards instead of canoes.
Irishgirl Posted - February 01 2007 : 11:25:25 AM
Would this LOTM be set on a beach then Fitz?
Fitzhugh Williams Posted - February 01 2007 : 10:21:55 AM

Seeing this image gave me an idea. How about Sandra Dee as Alice, Annette Funicello as Cora, Frankie Avalon as Hawkeye?

On that note, check this out. I find it HI-larious. Or perhaps I should say sehr lustig: a bunch of German guys playing American Indians, "Hawkeye" translated into "Falkenauge," and a climax in which "es kommt zum Showdown zwischen den beiden Indianern." Plus, check out the costumes. It appears that the Ft. Wm. Henry massacre has been moved up sometime into the Civil War, or maybe Little House on the Prairie, era! Hee hee...

On the subject of re-casting, I think it's hard to imagine anyone else in the roles. But what about Rosamund Pike as Alice? She was absolutely lovely in the new Pride and Prejudice and in the movie The Libertine, which had very few likeable characters! Can't you just see her as Alice?

Not only that, but you need the correct tribe! For instance, in the movie "Cheyenne Autumn," all the Cheyenne were played by Navajo! I understand that what they were saying was pretty raunchy. Navajo viewers think it's hilarious, but Cheyenne viewers aren't too happy at all...

Can't say that I blame them. I've noticed in recent TV and cinemas that a similar thing is happening. I'm not trying to start something controversial but I've noticed that minority races are being presented as stoneface and strong as steel and the others are being presented as ignorant, sniveling, spineless fools.
But it's been this way as long as I can remember only now, it's switched sides. Pretty insulting that man can degrade one another and think it's entertainment. Kinda' high-schoolish for me.
Just a simple case and point, in the original The Lone Ranger series, his sidekick was "Tonto", a mexican-indian named "idiot". Pretty low, huh? And by the way, he was played by an italian.

I remember watching Centennial as a child and loved it. I had a crush on Lame Beaver. Even as a girl I "had a thing for Indians". He was quite handsome in that role. Brings back memories alright. Thanks for that "flashback" Diana.
Diana Posted - August 18 2006 : 6:00:59 PM

And....

I just read that Michael Ansara played 'Cochise'. Also, does anyone remember him as 'Lame Beaver' in CENTENNIAL? Did you know he was born in Syria?

Or...

Anthony Quinn--as an arab in LAWRENENCE OF ARABRIA or as Crazy Horse in THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON?

Me too Long or short hair the guy is hot Can't wait to see him as Blue Duck in "Comanche Moon" He sure will make one cute, sexy bad guy. Just wish Eric was in there too as BH but at least plenty of other eye candy for us to over

Hey Irish, too bad he isn't "Sitting Duck!" we might have been able to catch him! Between the two of us, he'd be scarred for life!

Cora = Rose Byrne
Nathaniel/Uncas = Karl Urban
Perhaps Meredith Monroe = Alice

Have not seen The Searchers in quite a while but I recall Scar standing on the hillside just after the family is killed and when they take the girl. Quite scary I would say.
Diana Posted - August 16 2006 : 7:07:41 PM
Greetings:

On political correctness, can you think of a better 'Scar' than Henry Brandon in THE SEARCHERS?

FYI, he played an Eygptian--commander of the hosts--in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

Pretty scary guy.

Diana
